My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Searching for someone with a warm and caring heart to give this handsome boy a home. We took Shay in as a stray in September and even though his previous family abandoned him, his foster mom won’t give up until she finds the perfect forever home for him. We’ve had many people interested in him, but they always end up going with a kitten instead. Even though Shay is 6 years old, he still has plenty of life left in him and lots of love to give! He’s such a sweet cat and of all the cats I’ve had and fostered he is probably the most laid back one I’ve come across! Sleeping and eating are his favorite things, with a few minutes of playtime here and there. He loves “special treats”, which at his foster house are pieces of turkey. That’s the only time you’ll hear him meow is when he’s begging for turkey when the refrigerator opens! He also enjoys laser lights, certain toys on strings, his cat bed or any soft blanket, and corrugated cardboard that he loves to lay in and scratch on. He’s a very independent cat and not one that will be at your feet and constantly needing attention. He doesn’t hide and he’ll let you hold him whenever, but he likes to do his own thing and will find his own favorite spots in the house. He gets along fine with the other 4 adult cats in his foster home, but he doesn’t appreciate kittens as much. He’d probably do fine with a dog that has a calm personality that matches his! And even though he tolerates kids, we think he’d be happiest in a quieter home with older kids or no kids. Please consider adopting Shay and giving him the happy ending he deserves!
*Shay does suffer from rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal passages which is a common occurrence in cats), which leaves cats sneezing and sniffling. We believe this may have “flared up” from all the stress he was under from being abandoned and left on his own. The vet has biopsied his nasal passages and found no sign of a polyp, tumor, or anything cancerous. His foster mom has treated him with antibiotics and changed him to a grain free cat food diet which seems to have it under control. Although there is no cure for rhinitis, you can control severe flare ups with intermittent antibiotic use and good nursing care making sure the cat’s face is kept clean and clear of any discharge and that he’s well fed and happy! Even though this is not a serious issues, we felt it important to disclose as we only want to place him with some that has a compassionate heart and won’t abandon him again over such a minor issue.
All of our cats and kittens are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, up to date on shots, combo tested negative for FIV/Leukemia and microchipped.
