My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is with an independent rescuer, not Downtown Dog Rescue. Please contact the appropriate person indicated at the end of the bio and not the rescue group connected to this page!

Introducing Lord Stanley, a King among German Shepherds. Named after the coveted Stanley Cup, this boy has movie star good looks and a very cute personality. Stanley is a pure bred two year old German Shepherd that weighs about 90 lbs. He is a good-natured boy who loves people, kids and so far has been fine with other dogs. (Due to Stanley's size, small children under 8 may not be a good match.) He is smart and very eager to learn. He is learning to play fetch with a ball and a good game of tug of war. He LOVES going for walks but needs a strong hand and pinch collar because he pulls for the first few minutes. He usually settles down and walks well after the initial excitement passes. Stanley, being all shepherd, is very curious and loves to explore his surroundings but he equally loves chilling with the pack and having his ears and chest rubbed. Stanley has spent most of his life in a backyard with very little attention. He had a lab best friend to play with but when his buddy passed away, Stanley was very alone. His owner was neglecting him to the point that he was getting no human attention other than some caring neighbors who visited him. When his owner started opening his gate hoping Stanley would just run away, these good neighbors decided to intervene and took ownership of him. His foster family has been helping him learn basic manners and how to be a good indoor companion.

Stanley must be an indoor/outdoor dog and cannot be excluded to the outdoors only or be used as a guard dog.

Stanley is craving structure, appreciates the owner/dog relationship and will need some form of mental stimulation on a daily basis. We are looking for an adopter who will continue to work with Stanley, take him for walks and allow him to be a part of the pack. He is loving as well as goofy, but will absolutely need continued structure, as well as more training, once adopted.

Stanley is current on his shots, neutered and microchipped. There is an adoption contract and adoption fee and home visit required for Stanley's adoption. Please email Maureen at coppershop5@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting Stanley.
Emails will be returned within 24 hours.
