My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

NOTE: All our Cupids are fostered in private homes. An approved application MUST be on file before proceeding with meet-and-greet. The online application can be found at http://www.caninecupids.org/adopt-.html.

Meet Tillie!
Tillie is a 7-month-old American Staffordshire/Boston Terrier mix weighing in at 30lbs. She is a sweet, playful, utterly endearing pup who is eager to please.

She has many of the basics down, but she needs continuous reinforcement (for example, jumping on people: she will stay down, but with a reluctant, wiggly butt). She responds best to positive reinforcement – treats and lots of praise. Tillie is a bit fearful and will shut down around loud voices/noises or abrupt actions.

Tillie also has separation anxiety. She needs a home with another dog or dogs and with a family that is not gone for extensive hours. If she must be left alone, she does better in an exercise pen than in a crate. Canine siblings will provide her the energy release and security she needs to gain her confidence. Despite her size, she loves large dogs; however, she avoids barkers.

Tillie loves kids, is indifferent (so far) to cats, is remarkably polite, plays a mean game of fetch, and has ears that never quit. She also has a stubborn streak and is not a morning dog. Still very much a puppy, Tillie gets excited and sometimes mouthy, but she responds to correction, consistency, and praise.

Tillie will make a great playmate for a not-too-dominant existing dog and a loving addition to a family that understands her needs.

Tillie’s adoption fee is $300 and she is being fostered in southeastern Wisconsin. Because all our Cupids are fostered in private homes, an approved application MUST be on file before proceeding with a meet-and-greet. The online application can be found at http://www.caninecupids.org/adopt-.html.

If you are interested in adopting, here are the next steps for you to take:

1. Complete & submit an application at http://www.caninecupids.org/adopt-.html

2. You will be notified by our Adoptions Team when your application is processed and approved (usually within 48 hrs)

3. Once approved, your application is sent to the foster family, who will then be able to provide you all the information imaginable on the dog as well as set up a meet and greet.

Our Thoughts on Visual Breed Identification
Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable. For most of our adoptable Cupids we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We think it’s most important is to get to know each dog as an individual! We then do our best to describe each of our adoptable Cupids based on their personalities in order to determine whether they’ll make good companions based on prospective adopters’ lifestyles. Dog behavior is not exclusive to breed — it’s a complex mix of nature and nurture.
