My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello world!

The name’s Bubba, but the girls next door know me as Bubbles.

I am a male, black with white chest and toes Great Dane.

I am 1 1/2 years old.

I’ve seen a few different homes, some good, some bad.

Somewhere along the line, someone did love me, taught me how to love my crate, get along with others, keep my feet on the ground, and my basic obediences. My most recent home, though, didn’t quite feed me enough and just left me at a shelter – a place where I could not show the best side of me. But I don’t hold it against the human race.

When my foster mom picked me up from the shelter, I was extremely stressed, anxious, and nervous. Sadly, that stress caused me to bloat, a very scary fate for many giant dogs like me. That’s when Forever Friends decided to put me through emergency surgery and save my life.

I am certainly making them proud. I am waiting patiently to get my stitches out, gain some weight, and get neutered and my mom is fully confident that I will be more than ready for my perfect new home.

I get along with every person I meet (I get along with little kids but might accidentally sit on them) and every dog I’ve met. I haven’t met any cats, but I’ve come across one and got pretty excited – I would probably like to play with him more than he’d like to play with me.

I currently live in an apartment building and am great at it. I pass people calmly in the hallway, stay quiet when left alone, and ride the elevator in style. Although I can be trusted out while you’re gone (if there is absolutely no food left out, even up high), I feel really secure in my crate.

At night, I especially like to be in my crate. If I get left out, I pace and pace and pace. I just don’t know what to do with myself! But in my crate I fall right asleep.

Until I receive more training, I need to be walked on a gentle leader. Before my foster mom discovered that I didn’t mind having a gentle leader on, I was a bit unmanageable when being on a leash. Now I am completely controllable, but not perfect yet.

One thing that amazes my foster mom is how I use my voice. I don’t use it at all unless I have to go to the bathroom. Grumbling and whining means I have to pee, muffled barks means I need to poop. And when I tell you I need to go out, I will not stop telling you, so be prepared for some nighttime grumbles until we get on each other’s schedules.

Luckily once we get a sense of each others’ schedules, I can go a full work day (or a full night’s sleep) without needing to go out.

Well, that’s all for now. Hope you think I’m handsome!

A special note from Bubba’s foster momma ——

Hi potential forever home for Bubba!  Bubba is one of the smartest dog’s I’ve ever met!

He is always thinking and working things over in his head.

He is a lover of all and has yet to meet someone he doesn’t like.

Although I see evidence of his previous life and he feels secure in those such as different habits, routines, ways of going about his day – I have full confidence that with some training, he will easily learn your new routines and habits. He is a quick learner. I have seen this especially with his car anxiety. He came to me bordering on dangerous without a barrier between him and the driver, but he is quickly learning to feel safe and calm in the car now that he knows that not all car rides lead to something new, different and sometimes scary.

Bubba is so good, he just needs consistent training on boundaries and personal space, learning to respect his owners when they’re eating, sleeping, and walking through doorways.

He is such a tolerant, “soft spoken”, intelligent young man.

Having Bubba at home is like having another human in the house.

He is truly one of a kind!
