My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kinichi came to the Waverly Animal Shelter on 7 August, as a 32 pound, underweight, stray Shiba Inu. We estimate he is about one year old and he now weighs 38 healthy lbs. It was obvious he had been through some stress since his backbone was showing and he had several places of hair loss. He was such a good dog that he was assessed using the Canine Behavior Assessment process and Kinichi passed with flying colors. Unfortunately, when he was taken for his vet check, his temperature ran high and never came down to the acceptable level. The vets found nothing wrong with Kinichi other than his hyper nature. Rather than sending him back to the Shelter, my husband and I elected to foster Kinichi and at first, he was a hand full. Then we read up about his breed and realized we were going at it all wrong. We changed everything to make it calm for him and now he is so much better. He has learned to sit and stay. When he is taken for a walk, Kinichi will put his head through the collar, knowing it is time to walk. His foster dad has an office in the basement and works there a couple of hours each day. It is then that he and Kinichi spend their real quality time. Kinichi has a rug he lays on right next and often rests his head in his foster dad’s lap. Yes he is energetic, that is the nature of the breed. But with the right love and care, he is also gentle. We also foster puppies and Kinichi will lay on his side and kiss the puppies through the kennel. We did let him out once to play but unfortunately he does not realize how strong he is. Based on his breed description, it is recommended he be with children. He loves other dogs but care should be taken when introducing them to make sure he is not too excited. Kinichi is both kennel and crate trained and walks well on a leash. Not everyone will be a perfect fit for this boy but if you are the one, you will not be disappointed. He will make a wonderful companion and friend. ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED. CONTACT US AT 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.com
