Hi, my name is Bo, and I'm a handsome adult shepherd-chow mix boy with a lot to offer my new forever family. I'm wary of strangers, but once I'm past my initial shyness, I'll be your new best friend - loyal, loving and affectionate. I'm good on a leash, have good house manners, house and crate trained and I get along with other dogs. My foster says I'm very playful with my foster sister – lots of tug of war sessions with toys every day. I love to chase squirrels, rabbits and kitties, so I would not be good in a family with cats. My perfect forever home would be with an experienced dog family that doesn't have small children and would be able to continue my socialization with strangers and new situations. I'm a special needs dog since I've been diagnosed with hip dysplasia (common in GSD dogs). It is presently under control, but the family would need to keep my weight down and my exercise up and I'll have lots of good years ahead of me.

Bo's adopter must reside in the immediate Houston/Galveston area and be at least 25 years of age.

Adoption fee for Bo is $125.

Adoptions are held on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Petco on Bay Area Boulevard.  All dogs are heartworm tested, on Heartgard, fixed, vaccinated, dewormed and de-fleaed. All dogs are microchipped.

About Second Chance Pets

About Our Rescue Group...

Second Chance Pets (SCP) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 animal welfare organization dedicated to providing unwanted pets a second chance through foster care and pet adoption programs, educating the public about proper care for their own animals and about animal welfare issues, and working with the public, other rescue groups, and public officials to help resolve the problem of animal overpopulation.

Come Meet Our Pets...

SCP does not have a shelter or an office location. The rescued pets, volunteers, fosters, and adopters who comprise SCP come from all over the Galveston Bay area (mainly north Galveston and south Harris counties). Most animals are fostered and loved in volunteer homes until a permanent home is found.

SCP has cats and dogs available for adoption every Saturday at the Petco store at Bay Area Boulevard and Space Center Boulevard. A few cats may be seen during the week at the Petco location

Our Adoption Process...

Potential adopters must complete applications so that volunteers can help adopters identify cats and dogs that will fit best in their homes. SCP volunteers review the applications and discuss pet care responsibilities with potential adopters. The adoption donation typically starts at $95 for cats and $125 for dogs.

SCP tries to ensure that all pets are healthy at the time of adoption. All are examined by veterinarians when they enter the program. All are vaccinated, spayed, neutered, de-wormed, tested/treated for parasites and disease (such as heartworms, fleas, leukemia and FIV) as needed. Cats are vaccinated for FVRCP-C and FeLV. Dogs are vaccinated for DHLPP and Corona virus. Animals are kept in foster homes when available to minimize exposure to disease and to help them be well-adjusted. It is the policy of SCP that no cat or dog may be sent to a permanent home before it is fully vetted, including spay or neuter. All of our rescued animals are microchipped.
