My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Fraya is an American Bulldog-mix, female, a pup at 1 year of age. Fraya has been at this shelter and waiting to find a home since May 29, 2015; she received emergency/lifesaving medical treatment in June for dehydration from a particularly severe case of Clostridium and Secondary URI/Pneumonia; Fraya is now fully recovered and healthy.

Truly just as sweet as can be, Fraya is an outgoing and extremely affectionate, sensitive, and faithfully loyal dog who will form very deep bonds with her family members. Confident, sincere, friendly and sociable with a very upbeat and happy-go-lucky attitude, this people-oriented, people-pleasing charmer genuinely loves people and lives to please them. An intelligent, active, lively, coyly inquisitive, and sometimes playful young canine who needs daily mental stimulation and physical activity to stay fit and happy, Fraya’s exercise needs are fairly modest and can be met with regular leashed walks, interactive play sessions, and outdoor exploration and adventure-seeking in a safe, secure yard. She’s an extremely loving, very sweet-natured young dog with a cheerful disposition and totally can-do attitude. She’s also got a well-developed funny-bone, and she isn’t above showing her silly, comedic side to capture some attention. This pretty girl lives for human companionship and close contact, she loves to give kisses and cuddle with her people, and she’ll be happiest when included in daily activities with family members who are as devoted to her as she will surely be to them.

Barely more than a puppy, Fraya is looking for responsible, caring owners who will appreciate a high-functioning young pup (albeit one who doesn’t take herself too seriously) and provide her with all the attention, leadership, and companionship she needs and deserves for the rest of her life. Fraya is currently working on her leash skills and good manners training with a Monroe SPCA volunteer where, in spite of her youth, she consistently shows herself to be an attentive and obedient canine who learns commands readily and is quick to please when she knows what is expected of her. When outdoors on leash, she is very well-mannered and redirects from distractions easily. Fraya will enjoy and benefit from training and socialization classes, and she’ll definitely excel in obedience and just about anything else she does.

Fraya is best suited as an indoor pet and companion for a home with a low-active to moderately-active lifestyle. She gets along well with compatible dogs she has been properly introduced to, particularly those of the opposite-sex. Fraya attends adoption events with us on a regular basis where she is always a well-behaved, people-pleaser who won’t miss an opportunity to share affection; she’s also crate-trained and extremely well-mannered when meeting and interacting with children of all ages. All told, Fraya is really a terrific dog who will make an outstanding pet for just about any family. As with all Monroe SPCA adoptable dogs, a home visit and a meet-n-greet with any housemate pets will be required prior to adoption.

Fraya is a Monroe SPCA adoptable dog who currently resides at The Monroe County Animal Control Shelter located at 911 S. Raisinville Rd, Monroe, MI (just south of the fairgrounds). Come meet her during kennel hours Tuesday - Friday, 11:00 am - 3:30 pm; Saturday, 11:00 am - 2:30 pm, closed Sunday, Monday, and National Holidays. All Monroe SPCA dogs available for adoption at the shelter have an adoption fee of $120.00. This fee includes the dog being spayed or neutered, HW negative, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, and micro-chipped prior to adoption.
