Thinking about bringing Sammy or another wonderful Senior Springer into your family? Read why rescuing Senior Springers is a top priority for ESRA. http://www.springerrescue.org/seniors/index.html

Let us introduce you to Sammy! He was found as a stray, so we really don't know much about his past. The vet has guessed that he's at least twelve years old. When Sammy was picked up by ESRA at the shelter, all we knew was that he was an older boy who was in need of some attention and health care.

Sammy has had his teeth cleaned, and three teeth have been pulled. He's also been neutered, and with a steady diet of good food, he's gotten some spring back in his step. His stiff back legs are helped by a daily dose of tramadol.

As a senior dog, Sammy's eyesight is a bit restricted, and his hearing isn't the best either, but he still enjoys going for a walk, being playful, and having a nice head rub and snuggle now and then. Because of his limited eyesight, Sammy can be startled and may growl when he doesn't know right away what's going on. This is especially true if you try to wake him up from a nap.

So far, Sammy does not have full run of the house, as he has occasional accidents, but he's quite happy to wear pants in the house or to simply curl up in his kennel and nap. He enjoys being in his kennel because it's his special place, and he will often run into it when he comes in from outside.

As Sammy has settled into his foster home, he has enjoyed time with the resident dogs and has quickly picked up on the daily routines. Sammy's ideal Forever Home will be a quiet one that does not have small children. If you are looking for a gentle, low-key companion, Sammy should be a great fit. For more information, contact his case managers at the e-mail address below.

Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Sammy.

About English Springer Rescue America, Inc. - Minneapolis Chapter

About Our Rescue Group...

English Springer Rescue America, Inc. (ESRA) is a national referral and foster care purebred placement organization, and a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. ESRA's mission is to provide foster care to English Springers impounded by humane societies, private shelters, and animal control facilities nationwide, as well as to offer adoption referral services for those agencies.

Our Adoption Process...

http://springerrescue.org/adopt/adopt.html

Thank you for considering a rescue Springer. Rescue Springers are extremely loving and intelligent dogs looking for a caring home to give them a second start at life.

The following adoption application will help us determine the characteristics you are looking for in a dog, as well as who in our organization will respond to your inquiry. Please read this page carefully!

Adoption applications and fees will be required. The adoption fee for a dog in ESRA's foster care program is $300, except for dogs in our Seniors for Seniors program, for which the adoption fee is waived if both the dog and adopter are senior citizens. Foster dogs placed are spayed and neutered, current with vaccinations, and heartworm negative. We do ask that if you adopt a dog through our referral program, you make a tax-deductible donation to help us continue to care for other Springers who need assistance when found to be unwanted, abandoned, and abused.

When meeting a rescue dog, please try to spend as much time as possible with the dog to evaluate compatibility before making the decision to adopt. If you consider an interstate adoption, please discuss the dog's temperament, health, and transportation options very thoroughly with the shelter or foster home before making the decision to adopt the dog. In the best interest of yourself, your family, and the rescue dog, please make certain that the dog you choose to adopt is the right dog for you. Adoption is a big commitment!

It should be understood that applications for adopting a Springer through English Springer Rescue America, Inc. (ESRA) are subject to acceptance based on a review process that requires collecting information from an application, phone interview, vet and/or personal reference check, and possibly a home visit. This information should be submitted, and this process completed, before you meet a rescue dog available for adoption.

Making decisions about dog placement in adoptive homes is an "art", not a "science", and there might be times when applications will be denied for various reason(s). This is left to the discretion of the ESRA coordinator after reviewing all available information. ESRA reserves the right to make all decisions regarding placement or final disposition of any rescued dog in its care into a foster or adoptive home. There is absolutely no guarantee, made or implied, that any person or persons requesting to adopt a Springer Spaniel being fostered through ESRA, or posted on ESRA's web site, will be granted an adoption.
