My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What is your name?

My name is Talulah aka Lu!

How old are you?

At first, people thought I was around 3. However, my vet thinks I might actually be 8! It just took my humans some time to figure out how much wisdom I had gained in my years. Silly, humans. :)

What do you look like?
I am a small but sturdy pit bull, around 54 pounds with a pretty blue coat with some white on my chest. Although my ears at times like to stick way out, my foster mom thinks they make me pretty adorable!

What do you like to eat?
Because of my beautiful blue coat, and allergies my foster mom has been feeding me the healthy kind of dog food for as long as I can remember, but the best days are when I get to snack on bully sticks or fresh vegetables.

What kind of personality do you have?
I am an incredibly loving, and playful pit bull. I love to play in the backyard and hop around but it doesn’t take much to wear me out, and when I'm tired you can find me snuggled up on the couch or basking in the sun. I also love to go for daily walks, but not far or I might laydown in the nearest patch of soft grass and take a break. I am great around people but sometimes I do not fully understand my size. Also, I've never met a dog I didn't get along with, and I live with both small and large dogs! While I am a very playful girl, I am also very independent and self-entertaining, although my foster mom says I can be a little stubborn and require some patience. : )

Describe your perfect day:
I enjoy laying on the back deck for hours when the weather is beautiful. My perfect day would also include a nice walk around the neighborhood, visiting my friends (dog and human alike), and ending the day with a nice snuggle on the couch.

What is your favorite toy?
I have many favorite toys and I am very good at sharing my toys. My top picks include my deer antler (which I think is hilarious to toss around), my orbee tuff soccer ball that I will chase, and my stuffed skunk.

Do you know any tricks?
My main trick right now is learning how to sit, which I do very well waiting for my bowl at feeding time. My foster mom is also teaching me how to stay on command.

What scares you?
Not a whole lot scares me. But if I had to pick, nail trimming still isn't my favorite thing, but my foster mom and dad are helping me to feel more comfortable.

Do you like cats?
I haven't had much experience with cats, but I would be curious to learn more about them!

Do you have any doggie best friends?
My best doggie friend is my neighbor, Thomas, a red pit bull! We enjoy playing in the backyard, walking together and sharing the couch when he comes to visit. I also love my foster siblings, Dierks (Weimaraner), Ping (Cattle Dog Mix), Soulard (Miniature Pinscher), and Pipsqueak (Chihuahua).

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?
It depends on my mood, but when the weather is beautiful I will spend hours on the back deck. When the days are over and I have spent my energy playing, the couch or bed are my favorite places to be. I enjoy the simple things in life.

How is your health?
Right now, my health is good! When I was rescued my coat was in very poor condition and I was missing hair on my sides. After bloodwork it was found that I have a thyroid issue and I will need to always be kept on medication. But no worries, I am a champ at taking my pill and my medication is not very costly. Also, because of my beautiful blue coat my foster mom keeps me on a healthy diet and gives me Claritin daily to help with my allergies. I am so thankful for Dr. Johnson for caring about my health!

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
I share a home with two human best friends, Lisa and Dave and four foster siblings (Dierks, Ping, Soulard, & Pipsqueak). I like to be wherever they are. I love them all so much, and can't pick a favorite!

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?
When I am the only one in the house, my foster parents put me in my crate. Although I will move very slowly towards my crate in the mornings, I feel safe in my crate and do not mind being in there until someone comes home to play with me!

Where do you sleep?
I get to sleep in the big, comfy dog bed right next to my foster mom’s side of the bed. I know exactly where my bed is and I do not move all night, sometimes I don’t move until my foster mom comes up and tells me my food is ready. I really enjoy my sleep, although my foster mom says I sometimes snore!

What do you love about your foster family?
I love that my foster family has been so patient and understanding of my personality. Sometimes I move rather slowly when I do not want to do something and that requires a lot of patience. I am so lucky and proud to be an EC dog!

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?
Prior to my rescue, I was picked up as a stray by St. Louis County Animal Control and nobody came to claim me. I am so thankful to my entire EC family for giving me love, strength, and a chance.

Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for each of our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they acclimate into their foster home. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want our dogs to be matched up to the best living situation per their individual personality, needs and preferences. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home.

If I sound like the perfect pit bull for your and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
