ADOPTION SPECIAL: ADOPTION FEE WAIVED ON THIS SENIOR DOG!

“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,” sings the classic song. “You make me happy when skies are grey.”

Meet Sunshine: a bright, beautiful, downright regal Chow Chow/Retriever mix with a love for life, looking for a forever home to call her own!

There was once a time where the skies were grey with uncertainty and pain for this wise, loving girl. She was abandoned by the only family she had ever known at just six years old; her former family claimed they were "unable" to bring her along with them to their new home.

Utterly betrayed by those who were supposed to love her unconditionally, Sunshine had a hard time trusting new people. Indeed, she seemed destined to be stuck forever in her "grey sky" days, and ignored all attempts to reach her. She snapped at kindness and sulked in a corner, her golden eyes stoic and unfeeling, their radiant sparkle gone - numbed by the sting of abandonment.

Still, the people around her waited patiently and worked with her daily, knowing that she could learn to love and trust again. Then, sure enough, one day... the clouds vanished, and the beautiful Sunshine - our Sunshine - emerged, triumphant and eager.

Now, this lovely lady entertains for hours on end: chasing tennis balls, shaking hands, and showing off her adorable facial expressions to anyone who will watch. And, for an "older" dog, she sure is just as quick to learn new tricks!

A staff favorite at New Leash On Life, absolutely nothing can keep this strong-spirited girl down -- not even cancer, of which she is a survivor. We are so proud of all she has overcome; now she just needs that perfect someone to treasure her for the rest of her life!

Sunshine is fully obedience trained, and loves nothing more than settling down in front of the fireplace with a nice antler to chew after enjoying an evening walk with her favorite person in the world… and we are hoping that’s you!

About New Leash On Life Animal Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

New Leash On Life Animal Rescue Foundation was started in 1997 by a group of animal-loving individuals united by a vision -- to make overpopulation, unwanted pets, crowded shelters, and euthanasia things of the past.

In 2002, the organization moved to a 13-acre facility in the Santa Clarita Valley and established their base of operations there: a haven for many companion animals who would have otherwise been lost within the shelter system. The organization also established programs to help provide locals with better learning resources, to help enrich their education as animal owners.

Today, the Ranch is a borderline magical place, and offers a wide variety of additional services, such as: boarding, training, volunteer programs, CGC certification, and much more -- the proceeds from which go directly back into the rescue efforts, spearheaded by New Leash On Life's passionate staff and proactive volunteers.

New Leash On Life has also pioneered a unique program: the Lend A Paw (LAP) program, which offer training for both shelter and already-adopted dogs to become licensed therapy dogs for visits to hospitals, nursing homes, schools for special needs students, and veteran facilities.

Today, New Leash On Life can proudly say it has been directly responsible for spaying and neutering thousands of pets, rescuing, rehabbing and re-homing over 5,000 shelter dogs from various high-kill shelters all across Southern California, as well as making a continued determined effort to better educate the community on responsible pet ownership.

Together, in coalition with amazing organizations like Best Friends Animal Society, New Leash On Life is determined to save even more helpless lives, build a comprehensive network of allies to help all animals in need (even those not in our immediate area), and make LA (and beyond) no-kill, forever!
