Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable young puppy. Lainie is the kind of pup who snuggles in, loves you up and then puts her head on your shoulder. She's so new and fresh with every possibility open to her. That's the case unless they're in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great rescuer in Tijuana, Mexico in saving Lainie and her sister Layla from euthanasia. She could see that their temperaments were so sweet and their need so great that she couldn't turn her back on them. Lainie was immediately brought to be vetted, given the appropriate puppy vaccinations and brought to a dog-loving foster to begin her education as a treasured house dog.

When we think of rescue, our thoughts don't usually go onto the tough streets of Tijuana. But these forgotten dogs deserve our help every bit as much as their US counterparts. They all have been used for opportunistic purposes...to either breed and discard or to sell as a puppy to a Mexican mill or rich tourists. Virtually all of them have lived on the streets and survived by learning to be social. They love people because compassionate tourists were their means of survival. They can sit in any language and fit quietly into any scene to earn a treat or discarded meal.

This was the life waiting for Lainie...just 5 months old and 12 lbs (estimated to be approximately 18 - 20 lbs when full grown) and already starting to understand that sweet, cuddly and cooperative behavior gets great things in life. Lainie was one of the extremely lucky young puppies to master her socialization skills at a very early age and endear herself to the US rescuers. There was no way Lainie could be left behind...we all had a clear picture of this sweet girl in a forever Colorado home with a family that cherishes her for life.

As Lainie becomes comfortable in her home, she will become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier her family is with her behavior, the more she will shine with her accomplishments. We would like to see Lainie in a home that includes her in family time and activities... and takes that extra step to participate in puppy kindergarten followed by positive reinforcement obedience classes. These classes take a very smart dog like Lainie and molds them into a great family member that can behave appropriately in any situation. Lainie would also be a wonderful companion for active retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young pup.

Farfel's has determined through observation that Lainie and Layla are a bonded pair. They truly love, snuggle and entertain each other (sometimes two are easier than one). We will give priority to a family that would choose to bring both of these sweet Poodles into their home.

Lainie is either a purebred Poodle or a Poodle/Maltese mix. She is a shed-free dog (one of the best for those with allergy challenges) and will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition (a salmon oil supplement would be great) to keep her cotton-soft hair healthy and matt-free.

Lainie is arriving on transport in Boulder in mid November. Applications are currently being accepted for our sweet puppies.
