My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

CINNA
3 year old, Female, Cinnamon Spotted Bengal

COURTESY POST: Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is helping facilitate the adoption of this cat. We take no responsibility for the health and medical records of this cat. It is the responsibility of the owner and adopter to discuss this.

Wow, what a beautiful and loving girl she is! Cinna has quite a story to tell. So please make yourself comfortable in your favorite chair and take some time to read her story.

One day, a very nice Animal Control Officer found this spectacular girl in a field in Sacramento. She had an injury and Good Samaritan that he is, he took her in to the vet, got her injury taken care of and found out that she hadn’t been spayed, so they took care of that, too. His wife, a fan of big cats, fell in love with this striking girl’s gorgeous markings…who wouldn't? They already had two older neutered male cats and an older Rottweiler mix dog, so why not add another little kitty girl to their family?

Cinna had her own bedroom for the first month where she recuperated and adjusted to being inside. Since she had been living outside, her current owner was concerned that she might have a hard time adjusting to using a litterbox, but she did fantastic. They introduced her to the house and she hid for a little bit, but then she started becoming more social. Within a few weeks, she was fully acclimated and things were great. At that time, they lived in a house with cathedral ceilings and high windows, and Cinna, athletic Bengal girl that she is, loved getting up into the window panes and hanging out.

Issues started when the litterbox wasn’t cleaned on a regular basis. Now, most cat owners know that cats are very fastidious when it comes to having a clean litterbox, but some cats are even more so. Well, lovely Cinna fits that category. So they switched to a self-scooping litterbox and Cinna seemed to be happy with that arrangement.

Things started going sideways for Cinna when her owners left for 3 week for their wedding and honeymoon. They had a home pet sitter, but when they came back, Cinna showed her displeasure and what seems to be a feeling of abandonment and stress by peeing all over their couch. They were concerned that it may be health related. After several vet visits and urinalysis, the vet detected a few struvite crystals, but with feeding appropriate wet food and assuring that she drinks enough water, her health is not the issue.

As most experienced Bengal owner knows, this is a very special and sensitive breed. Bengals typically form very strong attachments to their owners and when things get stressful, they act out. One form of acting out is by peeing where they are not supposed to. A few things happened that are causing Cinna to be unhappy and stressed out. Her current owners moved last year and their new house does not have the high ceilings and high windows that she loved. Another issue is that one of their male cats is a grumpy old guy (to protect his identity, let’s refer to him as Mr. Grumpy). Mr. Grumpy started picking fights with her, and although she won’t instigate the fights, little tough cookie that she is, she won't back down from him, either.

The most disconcerting issue is that Cinna’s human mom, the same woman who is a fan of big cats and who fell in love with this gorgeous girl, is expecting her first child. I can just hear Cinna saying: “That’s enough, I have had it, I am no longer the female princess in the house, so now I am showing my unhappiness by peeing all over your place, including the unborn baby’s items.” Her human dad is completely dismayed, the situation has escalated, and Cinna is obviously unhappy with the current home situation. So let’s find her a home that will understand and help this little kitty.

Why would you want to adopt her, you ask? Well, there a numerous reasons. Let’s list some of them: She is a HARD lover, on her terms, of course, but once she approves of someone and starts loving on them she goes all out. She'll flop down in front of someone to get rubs and loves rough pets that make her hair stand up. She can be shy when people first come around, but if they sit still for a bit, she makes friends quick.

She loves one of the male cats in the house (obviously it is not Mr. Grumpy) and is constantly trying to play with him. Sometimes, she is a little too pushy and he gets angry; probably because he is an older boy and doesn’t remember how to handle such a young, vibrant girl. She Loves, Loves, Loves their Pit mix dog. They are best buddies. She rubs all over him and he licks her. They also love to chase each other through the house.

She is smart as a whip. She can get into Tupperware if left unsupervised long enough. She likes working on figuring out how to open the stove, which is the current hiding place for any and all human food the owners need to leave in the kitchen unguarded, and she will get in the fridge if given the opportunity. She is fond of veggies, breads, meats, cheese. And while they never offer it up, they are constantly amazed at the things she thinks of to try and get to it. Oh, and she LOVES butter. (Perhaps some plain yogurt once in a while might be a great alternative.)

She is a tiny little thing (about 11 lbs.), but with a GREAT purrsonality. She can fill a room in no time flat with her antics. She is almost dog like in her behavior. Her current owner is smitten with this funny, lifted back leg thing she does, especially when she is waiting for food. She leans her left hip against something with her left leg pointed straight back while she waits. He thinks she is a highly trainable cat.

An experienced Bengal lover who can give her lots of love and affection, perhaps a cat friendly dog she can befriend, and ideally an outside enclosure or a catio where she can expend some of that awesome Bengal energy is what this lovely girl needs. We feel quite certain that her peeing issue will abate once she is in the right environment
