If you want to make a difference in a dog's life, Demi is a great place to start.
Demi is a darling, petite Alaskan Malamute that came from a terrible background full of neglect, starvation and abuse. She was part of 31 Malamutes that were seized from a breeder who was arrested for her actions.
Due to irresponsible breeding and lack of care, Demi is much smaller than your typical Malamute. She is only about 45lbs. She IS a purebred, but due to the breeder's selfish ways she turned out undersized. Her beauty, however, is as gorgeous as any!
Demi has a bright smile and eyes that speak to you. Although she was sometimes be slightly shy upon meeting people, she's come a long way and enjoys people at this point! Give her a minute and she is affectionate with hugs and kisses! Demi really loves those who show her kindness, and she makes sure to let you know. She is also a great conversationalist! She tells you exactly what's on her mind and follows it with a huge grin! She loves to play and makes grooming a big game for everyone.
Demi needs to be placed as an only dog OR with a very large, relaxed yet playful male. While she has a good female friend in Matilda, we're not comfortable placing her with other females since she likes no other canine gals. NO small dogs and NO cats.
Demi was diagnosed with Diabetes Insipidus, which simply requires a reasonably priced med and plenty of water for her to live normally. She loves taking her medication because it means she gets a treat, and Demi LOVES treats!
Demi has had to learn a lot of things, including how to receive kindness. While at first hugs upset her, she now runs up to you and gives you big ones! While she used to fear when you walked quickly up to her, she now greets you with a smile. So her forever family will need to understand that a change may require some patience and understanding, as well as working on these things with her for a short while, but if that happens she'll come around quickly.
Demi SO deserves a life that gives her a nice couch, lots of treats and kindness in her life. Once knowing nothing but a cage, no food and a lack of kindness, she learns every day what it's like to be a dog. Let us know if you'd like to be the one that makes her dreams come true!
