My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable young dog. Willy is the kind of puppy who snuggles in, loves you up and then puts his head on your shoulder. He's so sweet and social with every possibility open to him. That's the case unless a dog is in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great rescuer in Tijuana, Mexico for saving Willy from abuse and certain euthanasia. She could see that his temperament was so sweet and his need so great that she couldn't turn her back on this very special guy. Willie was immediately brought to be vetted, given the appropriate vaccinations, neutered, granted a health certificate and brought to a dog-loving foster to begin his education as a cherished house dog.

When we think of rescue, our thoughts don't usually go onto the tough streets of Tijuana. But these forgotten dogs deserve our help every bit as much as their US counterparts. They all have been used for opportunistic purposes...to either breed and discard or to sell as a puppy to a Mexican mill or rich tourists. Virtually all of them have lived on the streets and survived by learning to be social. They love people because compassionate tourists were their means of survival. They can sit in any language and fit quietly into any scene to earn a treat or discarded meal.

This was the life waiting for Willy...just 18 - 24 months old and approximately 10 - 12 lbs. Schnoodles (Schnauzer/Poodle mixes) are one of our favorite breed mixes to bring into rescue. They tend to have calm and very sweet temperaments. They're often the mix of choice for families with gentle children as well as retirees who are searching for a well-adjusted fuzzy family member to add to their lives.

Willy is such a perfect size to be able to accompany his family just about anywhere and fit right in due to his great temperament and engaging personality. Willy is already starting to understand that sweet, cuddly and cooperative behavior makes great things happen in life. Willy was one of the very lucky young dogs to master his socialization skills at a very early age and endear himself to the US rescuers. There was no way Willy was going to be left behind! We all had a clear picture of this very sweet and fun-loving young guy in a Colorado home with a family that cherishes him for life.

As Willie becomes comfortable in his home, he will become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier his family is with his behavior, the more he will shine with his accomplishments.

We would like to see Willie in a home that includes him in family time and activities (and some lap-time would be perfect!)... and takes that extra step to participate in positive reinforcement obedience classes. These classes take a very smart dog like Willie and molds them into a great family member that can behave appropriately in any situation.

Willy would enjoy another gentle dog to play with...he's so sweet and gentle as he puts his positive energy into enjoying the day with a fun friend. A fenced yard would be great for Willy for running and playing with toys with his human and canine companions.

Willy was identified as a Schnoodle (Schnauzer/Poodle mix) by his Tijuana rescuer. We would tend to agree...Willy has the Schnauzer coloring with the long, wavy hair of the Poodle. Willy desperately needs a sudsy bath and grooming to show his beautiful looks and the black, silver, gold and purest white that run through his cottony coat. Willy is a shed-free dog (often excellent for those with allergy challenges) and will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition (a salmon oil supplement would be excellent) to keep his cotton-soft hair healthy, shining and matt-free.

Willy is arriving on transport in Boulder in mid November. Applications are currently being accepted for our sweet puppy with the dark, expressive eyes and loving demeanor. If interested in this adorable ...and often very fun and entertaining companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
