My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The very first thing that Caleb the Border Collie/Labrador Retriever mix wants to make clear is that he's a love. In these photos, you're not aware of the darkest charcoal black and whitest of white that run through his gorgeous coat. It is with grooming, care and great nutrition that Caleb's coat will show its gorgeous colors.

Everything is new to Caleb...his adorable puppy nose sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. And then before you know it, he is next to you on the couch. He's so happy there because his human (and canine) relationships are so important to him. We have to remember that Caleb comes from a very tough and challenging shelter. This 6 month old, 25 lb (anticipated adult weight is about 30 - 35 lbs--what a perfect size for a Colorado dog!) Border Collie/Lab mix truly lights up whens he feels likes he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. In this spirit of great behavior, Caleb is working on mastering his house skills.

Caleb's foster mom has the following to say about Caleb:
Caleb is doing great. He's still a baby and just needs patience and love.. and he blossoms. I sit with him and we talk about what a wonderful pup he is and what a great future he has to look forward to...I'm not kidding that I think he understands! Just a bit shy initially (but he should be after what he's been through)...and then the sweetest love! Caleb is so kind and cuddly... belly rubs and treats also are a gift to this puppy who has never had this kind of nurturing.

Caleb really enjoys (and even loves) my 2 dogs and they all have the greatest time playing in my yard. Caleb is very respectful of them. I was very pleasantly surprised at the level of his respect and gentle nature - when they tell her they have had enough play time, Caleb backs off and keeps himself busy in a positive way.

You would also expect a young Border Collie mix to be a bit crazy and have tons of energy..this isn't the case with Caleb. He has exactly the right amount of energy. He's so responsive..if he jumps on me, I just have to say no and he responds. He also learns general command in about 2 minutes..no kidding. It must be about the natural intelligence (and inherent great personalities) of these working-type dogs.

I actually think Caleb is somewhat calm for a 6 month old. He loves to play (once comfortable), run and beginnings of frisbee play...but then loves to cuddle equally. His temperament is really developing! I just have to walk into the room and glance at him...it's head to toe waggy tail and huge smile (now that he knows me better). He is such a sweet puppy - anyone who welcomes Caleb into their home is truly getting a gem of a dog!

Caleb's SUMMARY
Golden and brown-eyed Caleb is such a people dog. He enjoys quiet kids of all ages (no tail-pulling please) but they definitely must be very gentle and handle him kindly. We envision Caleb with an active retired couple or individual or a family with a bit older kids who want a beautiful and sweet dog as a family member and best companion. He would be so excited to spend his days in the company of his family. Being a Border Collie/Lab, Caleb loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. He would be a natural in positive reinforcement group obedience classes and agility class. He would love the challenge and is so smart and wanting to please..he would excel. Caleb would also be overjoyed to hike along Colorado paths..enjoying the sunshine and time with his people. His nature, while initially a bit shy, quickly becomes very joyful and his silly and fun puppy nature takes over.

We received Caleb's final foster summary and new photo..he's such a cutie! He
has become super friendly and engaging in his time with us. He doesn't express unusual shyness or fear at all. He has come out of her shell in a huge way and very quickly! Caleb is sweet, fun and has a tail that wags with good-will. He's a gift of love for a kind and committed family!

Caleb will require periodic baths and brushing (which he seems to really like) and great nutrition (salmon oil would be perfect) to keep his coat healthy, shiny and cottony-soft.

We've requested that Caleb be neutered prior to his transport to Denver. We're not optimistic that this will occur due to too many dogs and not enough vets in these rural areas. In fulfilling our commitment to zero population growth, Farfels is happy to cover all costs for spaying and a microchip for Caleb if our Denver vet is used.

Caleb will be arriving on transport in Denver on 10/21/15. If interested in this fun-loving, sweet and very devoted puppy, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
