My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Looking for a furry female friend? My name is Colbie and I am an absolutely gorgeous Australian shepherd/Malamute mix. I am 5 years old and love people. Because I am a big girl (75 lbs) and love to put my paws up to give you a hug, I may not be the best choice for a home with small kids. I wouldn't mean to hurt them but I might knock them down in my enthusiasm to get and give love. I like well-mannered male dogs but they need to be medium to large in size so I understand that they are dogs and not toys. Little dogs look a lot like my plush toys and I may try to play with them in the same way.
My dream home would have a large fenced in yard so that I can spend lots of time outside. I have a thick, soft coat so the cooler weather feels heavenly to me. Unlike those tiny type dogs, you won't have to shovel me a path or potty area this winter. I am built for mushing through the snow.
I am a herding breed but I am not hyper. Favorite activities are playing fetch with my plush toys and having someone chase me around the yard. I am equally happy chilling on the couch. While you are off at work, that is most likely where I will spend my day. My house manners are awesome. I don't get into things and don't have accidents. I am not a barker unless I think I need to protect my home/yard from an interloper.
I follow some basic commands ( sit ) and come when I am called. Stay is a little confusing to me so I run through my whole repertoire of tricks. I sit up on my haunches with my front paws in the air, twirl around and offer a paw. My favorite treat is cheese!

What I want more than anything is a family who can love me and understand my herding instincts. My job is to protect. I am friendly but if I think someone means my family harm or doesn't belong on my property, I will want to chase them away. If you introduce us and I see that they are friends, I will be very welcoming. I love to be petted and will give you a nudge on the hand if you stop before I have had my fill. .
I am spayed, up to date on all vaccines, and negative for Heartworm and Lyme Disease.. My vet gave me my annual check-up and I am in great health. I am microchipped so if something awful happened and we got separated, we could find each other again.

The weather is getting cold. Wouldn't you love a furry lap warmer?

NOTE: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
