Facts about Harold and Maude

  • Breed: Chicken
  • Color: Tan
  • Age: Adult
  • Sex: Male
Harold and Maude are a dynamic duo who adore each other's companionship. Harold is one of our "Frat Boys," a group of 13 roosters who came as chicks from a Philadephia school hatching project in 2013. When his frat brothers decided he wasn't pledge material, Harold moved into the Bachelor Pad, where he met Maude.

Maude came to CAS in 2014 when her owner could no longer care for her. She was lonely and looking for love... Harold was smitten at first sight.

They are a friendly and talkative pair who spend their days scratching in the dirt and frolicking in the tall grasses. Harold and Maude would get along well with other hens, but he is very submissive with other roosters.

About Catskill Animal Sanctuary

About Our Rescue Group...

Located in the New York’s Hudson Valley, Catskill Animal Sanctuary (CAS) is a 110-acre haven for horses and farm animals rescued from cruelty and neglect. In addition to emergency rescue, CAS provides innovative programs that educate the public about the sentience of farm animals, and the devastating impacts of agribusiness and institutionalized cruelty on animals, people, and the planet.

CAS offers weekend and special group tours, vegan cooking classes, speaking engagements, a summer day camp for kids, and a host of compassionate programming year round at its primarily solar-powered Sanctuary. Lodging is available on site at The Homestead, a beautifully-renovated 1813 farmhouse.

Since 2001, CAS has rescued over 3,500 animals, and has worked in tandem with law enforcement to bring animal abusers to justice.

Our Adoption Process...

We ask all adopters to complete an adoption application, specific to the species they intend to adopt. These can be found on our website at We then set up a meeting between adopter and animal to see if the two are compatible. We require a site visit to see where the animal will be living prior to approving an adoption. Things we look for include type and condition of fencing, size and condition of pasture, shelter- run in/shed/barn/stall, availability of food and water, type of bedding to be used. We ask for 2 references for all adopters. There is also an adoption fee for all animals which varies by species ranging from $15-$500.
