Facts about Patra

  • Breed: Cockatoo
  • Color: Pink
  • Age: Adult
  • Sex: Female
Patra is a Beautiful Molluccan Cockatoo. She is 15 y/o and loves to be out and about with the family. She is an Amazing Cockatoo, with an Amazing Voice...so she can get VERY LOUD at times! She prefers males, especially younger males to be her primary caregiver, however, she will tolerate females as well for scratches and attention. She recently moved into a foster home. Her foster mom has been working with her to teach her that good behavior gets rewarded with time out of the cage, scratches and ability to walk around. Naughty behavior such as biting, prancing around like you are queen of the castle and destroying woodwork gets you a time out in the cage. She has been mostly sweet and loving with her foster mom, soliciting head scratches, hugs and kisses. She is a challenge, but is also adorable and boisterous and fun. She is not a picky eater and will be happy to join in most family meals. She loves to be with the family happenings and will join right in the conversation at times, as well as help you cheer on your favorite football team! ;) Patra is looking for a forever home where she can have lots of freedom and attention during the day...preferably with someone who works from home or is home a lot during the day to be with her and let her out. She is vocal and does talk and babble. She loves to yell her name. :) In the right environment, she will thrive and be an absolutely wonderful companion. Patra needs LOTS and LOTS of attention and should be the only pet in the home. She will go after the dog if given the opportunity. Apparently she thinks she's the boss of the house and will let nobody step in her role! Typical Cockatoo!! Lol... ;) We are looking for someone who is experienced with Cockatoos and is familiar with their behavior patterns and habits, in hopes of correcting her anxiety issues which result in her picking habits at times.

About For The Love Of Birds

About Our Rescue Group...

For the Love of Birds is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of companion birds. We are a network of volunteers throughout New Jersey, and surrounding areas. We take in birds in need of new homes, and place them in nurturing and educational foster homes until a loving new family is found.

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption procedure begins with completing an adoption application and returning it to us. We will check your references and then call you for a telephone interview. While we check your references, we will ask that you review an educational power point presentation. After your application is approved, it is our policy that you visit with the bird(s) three times to have multiple interactions with them and give you time to consider the adoption and get ready for your new family member. There is an adoption fee for each bird.
