My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Alvin is an incredibly cute ball of cottony fur that climbs into your heart (and lap) with a wag and a kiss. What isn't clear in this shelter photo is how truly beautiful this dog is with the stunning silver and white streaks that run through his soft coat. Alvin also has the cutest Shih Tzu underbite...you just want to hug this little cutie-pie close. Once he gets a sudsy bath and his first haircut where you can finally see his face and very wise eyes...Alvin will absolutely be one of the most adorable guys around. At 18 - 24 months old and about 18 lbs, Alvin is a perfect weight to accompany his family just about anywhere a sweet small dog is welcome... while being large enough to be a great hiker or power walker.

Alvin is every bit the young guy...fun and active. But at the same time he is a happy and well-behaved pup (once he's used to his environment) who is not unnecessarily vocal. He's more likely to express himself with his wagging tail and excited kisses of love. At this early point in Alvin's development, he loves almost everyone..be it human or canine. We want to nurture this positive vision of the world by matching Alvin to a family who expresses their devotion for him in many different ways. We'd like Alvin to attend positive reinforcement group obedience group classes to be the very best adult dog he's capable of being. We also feel Alvin would be most comfortable with an adult family or one with older kids 12+ where voices are softer and the energy is calmer.

Right now, Alvin is a blank slate who will soak up positive feedback with every effort to be the best behaved and most cuddly guy around. Alvin is so loyal that he can easily be a constant companion - he would love nothing more than leisurely walks, trips to the store (he's a great window-shopping friend), lap-sitting or even a place at a pet-friendly workplace. Alvin is flexible enough that he can be introduced to virtually any situation...and if there is love and gentle guidance...he can succeed.

Alvin's new family needs to have the motivation, energy and open heart for a young rescue dog. He requires behavioral guidance and tons of love to give him a positive attitude about the world. Alvin will be fully vetted and neutered when he arrives in Boulder to be in line with our commitment to zero population growth in dogs.

Alvin is a non-shedding guy with the beautiful and cottony-soft hair that speaks of both breeds in his mix. He will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition (a supplement of salmon oil would be great) to keep his coat cottony-soft and matt-free.

Alvin is arriving on transport in Boulder on 10/31/15. Applications are currently being accepted for our sweet pup. If interested in this adorable ...and often very cuddly and loving best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
