My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Guest Dog - Jack is not yet a DREAM dog and is being listed as a courtesy to a Good Samaritan / foster parent, to try to keep him / her out of the overcrowded rescue and shelter system. If you are interested in making this sweetheart part of YOUR family, please let us know and we will put you in touch with Guest Dog - Jack's foster parent.

************
Hi! I am Guest Dog - Jack and I am looking for a new home.

Jack is a 6 year old pure bred male dachshund. He weighs around 18 pounds. I have had Jack for about 5 years and adopted him when he was about a year old. The past 2 years have come with a lot of changes and requires me to be gone for the majority of the day. There is also one less person living in my home to help care for Jack. I have kept Jack for selfish reasons because I adore and love him so much and have not been able to part with him. It is becoming more and more obvious that he is not getting the attention and care he needs anymore. I would like to find Jack the most loving and affectionate home I can. I am going to be completely blunt and honest about Jack because I want him to find the absolute best and forever home.

Jack is a small dog with a large personality, he has the complete dachshund attitude. Jack has many behavioral issues. These issues are extremely lessened with the more love and attention he gets. He would do best in a home that has someone there during the day or who is only gone for several hours at a time, as he needs to potty frequently. I have not had any luck crate training him so please keep in mind this may never be an option. Jack is not shy about getting into things like the trash or helping himself to drinks on the coffee table (typical dachshund behavior). Jack shows signs of anxiety and can be very hyper. He needs to have access to a very secure, fenced-in backyard. If Jack sees a bird or squirrel he will run. Jack also needs to be an only dog. He gets along great with my other dachshund but he has showed serious aggression towards my foster dachshund and my mom’s dog. It is mostly about food but it has also come out of nowhere. He has lived with cats before but he plays rough with them and I would find myself feeling sorry for the cats.

Though Jack has many behavioral problems, he is one of the most loving dogs I have ever met. He absolutely loves to snuggle ad be close with humans. He has NEVER met a person he doesn’t love right away. He is great with kids and will chase them around the yard. He LOVES to go on walks and is so well-behaved on a leash. He does get excited and jumpy when he sees another dog. Jack’s loving personality is the reason I have had such a hard time making the step to find him another home. I just know if he finds a home where he gets the attention he needs and deserves he will be a much happier dog. Please contact me (Caity Barsin) with any questions about Jack at cbarsin@gmail.com or call me at (678) 481 - 9403. I am going to be picky in finding him his new home because he needs so much special care and I can’t bare the thought of him being moved around again.

To make Jack the happiest Dachshund ever, contact Caity or let DREAM know you would like to know more.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group, and we focus on the Atlanta, North Georgia and Savannah area. Because we are all volunteers, we can consider applications only within an hour of these areas. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
