My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DOB: 6/14 Striker was a kitten abandoned on Ryan Road, Medina. He survived by his wits with his sister until a good Samaritan trapped him because he looked injured. As a result, Striker was deathly afraid of everything and everyone. He has come a long way in his ability to form friendships with humans and other cats and now seeks affection and safety. He is playful! Suggested Acclimation Feral cats often have a life-long conditioned-response to abuse & neglect. They have their own form of PTSD. Yet, like humans, they also have a need for safety and affection. Many can become wonderful pets, but like humans with PTSD, loud noises, sudden movements, new experiences may spook them. Letting them get acclimated to new surroundings with patience gives them a sense of security and then trust in you. Striker will do well with a gentle patient acclimation period in a household with minimal pets, and perhaps older children…ideally a bachelor (ette) pad - – he’d fit right in!  Start him in a smaller single room if possible (i.e. bathroom, utility room, den) with a cardboard box or place he can escape to when scared. Do not chase him. Once he gets used to his “new” home, he will come to you for affection and food. You can encourage him with treats (read the back of package- maybe break treats up into smaller pieces for more time with him – they have lots of preservatives, so too many pieces/day can make cats sick). Feed him, give him a bed, toys (loves cat nip) and a litter box all in this space.  When he has been seeking affection for approximately a week or two, leave the door open so he can explore the rest of your home. Leave the bed and food and litter in his first home (above) with the door open for another 2-4 weeks. He will most likely return there for security until he feels comfortable in the bigger space – your home. Then move litter box, food, and water to a place of your choice.  He eats Purina ”Naturals” (Olive green & gold bag). Large bags can be found at PetSmart or WalMart, other stores. Any questions: Feel free to call foster mom: Debra (330) 769-2627 or Kitten Krazy (330) 591-4408
