From the Foster: Brooke is a very sweet little mystery mutt! She almost looks like a pug got together with a black lab ;) Brooke is a shy girl. She doesn't meet people or dogs with open arms, but give her some time and she loves other dogs! Wrestling with the resident Corgi is one of her all-time favorite activities. She is very fearful with new people, and will give a growl warning and lots of barking telling them them to back off. Brooke loves HER people, and while she is a fantastic little snuggler who adores foster mom and dad, she would not do well in a house with new people coming and going without further training. She does better with women than men.
Brooke is still working on her house training and general manners but she's improved a whole lot! She would benefit greatly from continued socialization with people and dogs. She is a graduate of Basic Training at Twin Cities Obedience Training Club. She knows sit, touch, down, shake, wave, bow, and "relax" on her mat. She is a very fast learner, loves treat rewards, and LOVES going to school! She is also a graduate of Fetch Dog Training's class Wallflowers, for shy and fearful dogs. She has completed a Tricks class and has begun training in agility. She really loves her agility classes! As of February 2017 she has been taking these classes continuously for 3 months now. Her new forever home must commit to ongoing training... she loves learning, and it does her so much good and boosts her confidence in regards to strange people and strange dogs. She still has a way to go being comfortable with strangers, but she is making so much progress.
Brooke loves toys, chewing on bones, and all sorts of fun things! She is crate trained and being crated when left alone is important so that she doesn't get into any trouble. She is very food and toy motivated so with lots of positive reinforcement she is a quick learner! She is very agile, and can leap from couch to chair and back with ease... got a coffee table? She might hop on that as a pit stop along the way!
Brooke is very alert to all goings-on outside of the home and is a very vocal dog. She will alert to strangers and other dogs outside the fence or window. She would not do well in a living situation with shared walls.
