Facts about Mateo

  • Breed: Shar Pei
  • Color: Brown/Chocolate
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Male
Mateo is a 3 yr. old dark chocolate horsecoat male shar-pei, medium size (44 lbs.) who deserves a family. He is very affectionate and attentive, loves to hug and give lots of kisses, and is a friend to all- people as well as other dogs. But absolutely no cats. He is an active dog, especially for a shar-pei, and very playful with other dogs, so must be matched accordingly if paired with a family that has another dog. He is crate trained. Like most shar-pei, he does not appreciate the rain and any cold weather, so he doesn't like to stay outdoors for long during inclement weather. He will make an excellent companion for an individual or a family- preferably one who knows and understands this breed. Please note that Mateo is being fostered in Vermont. If you are interested in providing a loving home for Mateo, please fill out an adoption application online at our site at

About Peis & Strays - VT

About Our Rescue Group...

Peis and Strays is a non-profit all-volunteer organization. It was established by a small group of individuals in the New England area with the intent of helping Chinese Shar Pei find loving homes.

Peis and Strays relies on donations, fund-raising activities and adoption fees for its income. We do not receive any state or federal funds. All donations directly benefit the dogs in our adoption program. We are a 501c3 organization, so your donations are tax deductible. We are always in need of donations and committed volunteers like ourselves. For more information about us, please email us at:

Come Meet Our Pets...

We do not have a shelter in any specific location, all of our dogs are cared for by foster families in their homes, across New England. Since the dogs are all cared for by private foster families, we ask that the adopter fill out an application before they meet a dog, to show that they are truly interested in adopting.

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption process includes an application (, a home visit and the vet reference. Further information about our adoption policies are located at:
