My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Marcus is the sweetest pup with the biggest heart (and ears!) in the world. He divides his time between playing fetch and snuggling on the couch. His absolute favorite thing to do is squeak his toys and he’s become quite adept at it!

Marcus has met other dogs and does just fine with them. He has only seen cats from the other side of a gate, but seems more curious about them than anything else. He’s absolutely fascinated by children; you can tell that it blows his mind to see smaller versions of people the size of his caretakers. He does get very jumpy and loves to show his affection through a flurry of licks, so young children might be swept up in his rush of adoration.

So far, Marcus has had many new experiences! He’s learned to navigate stairs and can now fly up and down them like lightning. He’s adjusting to the sensory overload of going on a walk and getting used to being outside on a leash. He’s learned not to get ahead of who he’s walking with and not to fall behind either; though he does get awfully engaged in observing children, squirrels, and other dogs (sometimes he enjoys simply having a seat, cocking his head to the side, and perking his ears up as he takes in a new sight, smell, or sound). Marcus is incredibly smart and learns new things very quickly!

Marcus has also been working diligently on perfecting some very important skills. He’s been getting used to alerting us to his needs and is very close to being completely housebroken. He’s been adjusting to sleeping in his crate and can now do so throughout the duration of the night without any accidents. On top of that, he’s getting comfortable being in there for extended duration and has stopped barking or yelping altogether. He now knows that the crate is where he’s supposed to go to sleep and does so with the comfort of his fleece blanket and stuffed bone toy. It’s lights-out for him in around ten minutes now.

Marcus will be a welcome addition to any home; all he wants to do is have someone to both play with and cuddle up next to. You would be hard pressed to find another companion with as much love as Marcus has to give. Marcus is estimated to be about 5 months old and weighs about 20 pounds. Since we don't know at all what doggy genes are in the dogs make up (we don't know who mom and dad are!), we are just guessing on breed.

All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They have all had a vet exam, are up to date on vaccinations, have been given a dewormer, are treated for fleas, have a heartworm test if over 6 months old and are up to date on a heartworm preventative.

Please note that because we require a home visit at the time of adoption we can only place animals in homes within a 60 mile radius of Minneapolis. If you are interested in meeting this dog please fill out the pre-adoption application on our website at http://www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and we will get back to you to arrange a meeting in the foster home.

We also have an Adoptable Dog Meet & Greet on Saturday November 28, 2015, at Fetch Delivers Warehouse, 783 Harding St. NE. Suite 150, Minneapolis, MN 55413, from noon - 2 pm. Occasionally dogs cannot make it to the Meet & Greet, therefore feel free to verify if your dog of interest is able to attend. Please bring a copy of your pre-adoption application.
