My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We love the Great Pyrenees breed, and we rarely see them in rescue. They are not as recklessly overbred as some of the more popular breeds. Gabby and her older housemate, Lady, came to us from a rural shelter, without an adoption program. They were at risk for euthanasia, so we stepped up to help them find forever homes. These beauties may well be related, either as siblings, or dam and pup.

Gabby seems to be the younger, roudier dog of the two. She has a lush white coat tinged with beige at the ears, and she has not yet developed her full coat. At 18 months, she is puppy like, and her dog pack manners seem behind the learning curve. She is benefitting tremendously from exposure to a variety of dogs and handlers. The more socializing Gabby gets, the more her pack manners improve. She is generally friendly to everyone she meets, and her initial puppy unruliness has begun to wind down.

Great Pyrenees are wonderful family dogs, despite their hardwired work ethic. Gabby has a fantastic temperment and marvelous potental, but her former owners allowed her to run amuck. She would do best with calm, experienced handlers, well versed in giant breeds, who have a good grounding in obedience work. Gabby is grasping the basics well, and is responding nicely to positive rewards based techniques. In the hands of motivated adopters, she will develop into a first-rate family companion.

Gabby could also join an active adult home, with folks who can provide a moderate amount of exercise. At 88 pounds, Gabby is a bit underweight, and could easily gain 10 pounds to be at ideal weight. Adopters should maintain a healthy weight and light exercise regimen to ward off obesity related joint pain that plagues the giant breeds in their senior years. She is a large, medium energy dog, who needs moderate exercise, perhaps two to three daily leash walks, in addition to frequent potty breaks.

Gabby has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect the occasional accident as she transitions to a new home. Gabby is in excellent health, and will be spayed 11/13/15. She will be available to go to her home by the following weekend. Gabby is vaccinated for rabies, parvo, adrenovirus, distemper, coronavirus, leptopirosis, canine influenza, and bordatella. She has been dewormed, and has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
