Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bella arrived at AAE as a result of neglect. She was club-footed and knuckled over on her hooves due to long term lack of hoof care. She had clumps of dead hair that peeled from her thin body. Her hooves were trimmed, and shortly thereafter, she was seen by our vet. She was diagnosed with contracted tendons in all four legs. Sadly, her hoof issue could have been treated more easily when she was a foal. Weeks later and several trims later, she still seemed to be in some pain when she walked. Her tendons were contracted for a long period of time, and they were having a difficult time relaxing so she could walk normally, and they may have never fully extended without help. Think about walking on your toes like a ballerina for months with no break and then trying to walk flat-footed.
Thanks to the big hearts of our volunteers and supporters, AAE was successful with a special fundraiser to provide Bella with the surgery to help her condition so she could walk pain free. She is making great progress, and she is ready for adoption. She will need more frequent hoof care due to her conformation. She is up to date with vaccines, deworming, and hoof and dental care. She will be best suited in a companion situation, and she is not suitable as a child’s horse at this time. She is an ornery little mini, and she is still learning appropriate behavior.
