My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zeus is about 18 months now, still a large "puppy." We are so grateful to Sacramento Independent Animal Rescuers, who donated a DNA test. This is how we learned that Zeus is 1/2 American Staffordshire Terrier, 1/4 Golden Retriever, and 1/4 mixed breed predominantly from a group of breeds that includes St. Bernards, Bernese Mountain Dogs, and Swiss Mountain Dogs. Wow! Who knew?!

What we DO know is that Zeus is a super happy, playful guy. He gets along great with other dogs and especially enjoys playing with those who will rough-house with him, rolling and tumbling and running and jumping! He is a talker and will WOOF at his doggie playmates to encourage them or to say, "Hey, can I have that stick?" He loves to play chase and that would include ANYTHING that runs so Zeus should not be in a home with cats! Zeus has recently learned that he loves to FETCH and SWIM! We are not surprised, he IS part Golden Retriever, after all!

He was great with the kids in his previous home and is learning manners so has even been very gentle with elderly people but he is a big goof-ball so small children and very frail elderly would not be so good.. He is still young and exuberant and will really enjoy going to training class so that he can get lots of treats for doing all the right things. Zeus prefers a yard to roam around in when he is at home. He has been doing some trail hiking but he gets easily startled by new places and faces, so needs an experienced adopter who can help him get used to the bigger world and build his confidence.

Now it is time for Zeus to go to the home where he can stay for the rest of his life!

Zeus is neutered and is up to date on his vaccinations. He is ready for a real home of his own where he will be treated like a treasured member of the family. Adoption fees range from $200-$275
for dogs. THE DOGS SHOWN ON THE SITE ARE IN FOSTERCARE - WE DO NOT HAVE A SHELTER TO VISIT. EMAIL is the best way to reach us.

We are a volunteer run, very small organization - so please be patient when waiting for a response, but feel free to check back in if you haven't heard from us in a day or so - thank you so much for considering a rescued pooch!
