My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This little guy thought he had a furever home when he was just 3 months old and was sent to Central Florida to be a part of a human family. Unfortunately, 6 months later he had an awful realization that he was no longer wanted.

During the first 9 months of his life he was never given a real name, just sometimes called "Junior", but mostly just called "Damn Puppy" as one of our SDR volunteers was told by the mom that no longer wanted him.

On the day this little guy was on his way to be surrendered to a high-kill shelter, an SDR volunteer encountered him being carried by his human into an animal control office. The volunteer struck up a conversation with his human and asked why he was being surrendered. The answer was that his human didn't have time for him. At that, the volunteer said she could help and he came into loving arms. When he was surrendered to the SDR volunteer he was shaking, very timid and aloof. Within a very short time he warmed up and became his foster mom's shadow. Since he is part of a Dachshund rescue it was only fitting that he be considered an honorary dachshund and bestowed a proper German name ... Schultz.

Schultz loves to run and play with other dogs, including young puppies in his foster home, but when it gets too rough for him he will scurry to his foster mom for protection. He has a strong desire to please and loves to cuddle.

Schultz had no veterinary care at all in his young life, but is now up to date on all his shots, is heart-worm negative and he has been neutered. He is a very loving boy, but needs some training and TLC. He has a some separation anxiety, but once he knows he is safe and loved that seems to subside.

On his first day in his SDR foster home he watched his fellow furbabies use the doggie door and quickly became an expert level user himself. He is still working on 100% potty-training, but is making progress. He is pretty smart so with a bit more work, he should get the going outside thing mastered!

Schultz is about 9 months old and approximately 10lbs; his coat is soft and a beautiful white color with caramel colored markings. He has a cute tail that curls and he often wags it. He has really long legs and amazing jumping ability.

He is a frantic eater and will try to take the food of the more passive dogs when he finishes his own, but his foster mom can take food from him with no aggressive tendencies. Schultz has displayed no aggressive tendencies at all -- he's a lover not a fighter.

Schultz would love a furever home where he will be loved unconditionally, cuddled and can share the rest of his life with his master. He loves to nestle in next to his human at bedtime and to sit on her lap and be held.
