My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sadie is a very loving, extremely beautiful and smart sensitive dog.
This is one cool girl.
She has finished up her Heartworm treatment! YES!!!
She is very typical of the cattle dog breed. She is highly intelligent and likes to keep busy and have a job.
She would excel at obedience or agility.
As in you would clean up! You would probably go to the agility Olympics (is there agility olympics?)
OK , well you would be grand champion of the world!
Sadie worked out hand signals for lie down and sit ---just from watching other dogs...she loves learning new tricks! And she is fast!
She is very snuggly and loves attention. Like your typical heeler, she is a velcro dog. She is most happy when she is doing something active with her person. But this trait can cause problems.
She can have a bit of separation anxiety. She does crate well, but she really is most happy having people around.
She loves to hike and has gone on several trail rides with her foster mom.
Like many female heelers Sadie does prefer to be the alpha dog. She can be reactionary and so needs a careful introduction . She is really improving, but probably would not be a dog you could just turn loose at a crowded dog park. She does better with larger male dogs.

She does have cats in her foster home and does like to chase them. A cat free home probably would be preferred but, she is very trainable and a cat MAY be tolerated. But chances are the cat's quality of life would go way down hill...
If you are familiar with Australian Cattle dogs and all their wonderful qualities along with their quirks, and would like to meet Sadie, then she would like to meet you!

The ideal home for this Real Good Dog will have a secure fenced yard. A solid history of excellent vet care for current or previous pets is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have specific breed experience.

Please visit www.realgoodrescue.com to submit an electronic application if you are interested in adopting this or any other Real Good Dog.

We adopt dogs from Memphis Animal Shelter when we can. The shelter has an 83% euthanasia rate, one of the highest in the country. Unfortunately, any dog coming from Memphis Animal Shelter, and most other shelters for that matter, will have been in contact with contagious illness. Even though the dogs have been in foster care and appear to be in good health, they may become stressed when changing environments and exhibit signs and symptoms of illness. If you have other pets, they need to be up to date on vaccines before bringing a shelter dog into your home. We will take the adopted animal back, but we are not responsible for your other animal's vet care. We always disclose where the dogs have come from. Please ask for any information about the dogs and exercise due caution if you have immunocompromised animals.
