My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a pair of male chinchillas who are now looking for their new home. These boys came to the rescue a few months ago, and are finally ready to leave and find a family of their own.

These boys are named Chubs and Mac. They are both approx. 1-1.5 years old, born sometime around in 2013-2014. Chubs is a TOV ebony, which means he is dark greyish / black all over his body (including his belly), but because of the TOV gene, he has even darker veiling on top. Mac is a white mosaic. Mostly white with some grey shading.

These boys are a pair and need to go to their new home together.

These boys have an interesting dynamic, in that their personalities are very different. Chubs is the more outgoing chinchilla, and he is the one you are more likely to see running around the cage, running on the wheel, and munching on chew toys. Mac is more laid back, at least in the cage, and is the more shy of the two. He is more often found hiding in the hidey house or in one of the fleece tubes.

Both chins do just fine with being handled and petted, though Chubs is the one that does better with it. He is more comfortable with being held and petted, whereas you can tell that Mac is a bit unsure. We feel that more handling and more bonding with them will help them both come out of their shells and will make them more comfortable with people. Mac is more energetic while being held, and would likely benefit from playtime. Neither chin bites.

These chins would make good “first chinchillas” for someone who’s never had one before, as long as that person / family understands that they will need to take time bonding with these boys to get them comfortable in their new home.

These chinchillas will come with some food to start you out (Tradition pellets), two goodie bags of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. They will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

These chinchillas are located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

The adoption fee for Chubs & Mac is $200
