Mali (Malley)'s Story...
Little Miss Mali (pronounced Malley) was an owner surrender in rural South Carolina where she was being sent to a shelter because her owner couldn't care for her. Down there, Mali would have been euthanized immediately to make space for all the strays, since no one was coming to claim her. We rescued Mali and discovered a beautiful 8 month old girl who was raised around small kids and cats (and is great with both). She also loves other dogs, and she LOVES to play in her foster mom's fenced yard. Mali currently weighs 34 lbs. and could stand to gain a few more. She is not a large lab, and will stay medium sized (under 60 lbs.).

Mali is living in a foster home with other dogs and loves them. She has been starved and horribly neglected so she has lots of puppy energy and inhales her food. Her foster mom is working with her on this, and we believe once she realizes she will never starve again, that she will be able to eat more normally. Aside from that she is described by her foster mom as a "snuggle bug". Her foster mom also has this to say about her:

"Mali is still a very energetic girl and needs a yard as she spends a lot of time outside running and playing. Otherwise, someone needs to be committed to taking her to dog parks or for long walks. She's about 95% housebroken. I say that because I don't know how she would be if we left her with the run of the house. I leave my patio door open and she goes in and out when she needs to. I still crate her if I need to go out. She will go into the crate on command, especially if there's a treat involved. She will potty on command if you say "go potty." She's more gentle taking treats than she was before and will sit without having to be told. She still attacks her food, but will sit and wait for a command before starting. Sometimes you have to tell her twice. She's smart and learns quickly, although we're still working on manners and other commands. She still gets excited and jumps on people, but were working on 'off'."

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Mali (Malley), a Bowie Labrador Retriever puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever for sale in Bowie, or seeking a Labrador Retriever puppy from a breeder in Bowie.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Bowie already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Bowie breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Bowie paves the way for another one to be saved.
