The phone call we never expected…….but were glad to get!
Ella Fitzgerald and BB King are sisters who have quite a tale to tell you. Hand-caught from an outdoor colony as tiny kittens, both girls thrived in LOA’s foster program and were adopted together about five years ago. Fast forward to September 24, 2015….imagine our surprise to receive a call from a local shelter letting us know our cats were “owner-surrendered” at their shelter on September 8. Microchips were not originally found (they sometimes move or even work their way out of the skin). BB had a minor “cold”, so the sisters were separated for three weeks with BB being in isolation.

But that’s not even the worst (or the best) part of the story! This shelter then had a huge influx of cats and as a very last resort, several sick or more unadoptable cats were scheduled for euthanasia. Cold, hard facts. Our BB was one of those. She was brought from her cage, placed on the table and given a sedative to render her unconscious before they pushed the final medication that would stop her heart. At this point, the Kennel Tech decided to try ONE MORE TIME to find a microchip. As she drew the wand over BB’s shoulders and back…BEEP! A microchip! And the emergency contact information was LOA’s! They assumed since both girls came in together, they both belonged to LOA. Thus came the phone call that we were VERY grateful to receive letting us know that two of our babies were being held for pick up by our group. We picked them up the very next day and they were so happy to see each other!

The girls are now healthy, happy and getting along well in their temporary foster home. Because of their sweet bond, they will only be adopted as a pair. They’ve endured so much, but are ready for the next (hopefully last) part of their journey to their forever homes. Do you have a place in your heart and home for these sweet girls?
