Facts about Gummie

  • Breed: Domestic Longhair
  • Color: Calico Or Dilute Calico
  • Age: Adult
  • Sex: Female
  • ID#: 9410185
  • Hair: Long

This is Gummie, a 5-year-old calico longhair. Poor Gummie was surrendered to a kill shelter where she spent many months in a cage. She had grown a bit cranky being in that cage and could you blame her....? So being kitten season poor Gummie was overlooked time and again and even worse they needed her cage for yet more kittens so her number was up! But a nice volunteer from BARKS saw her picture and gave her a chance to start a new life. Gummie is a quiet friendly cat. She would most benefit from a quiet home without small children. She is handleable and friendly, but like typical calicos only allows the petting on her terms. But we think she will be just fine once someone shows her its ok to love someone again. She would be ok with a few other calm cats as she prefers not to socialize with cats but is ok living with them. She does not like dogs. Gummie is in good health but has no teeth. She would need 2 small feedings of wet food a day but she also eats dry.

About BARKS

About Our Rescue Group...

BARKS (Byram Animal Rescue Kindness Squad) is a non-profit, all volunteer, animal rescue organization founded in 1973 to provide veterinary care, housing and permanent placement of stray and abandoned cats and dogs.

BARKS works in association with the Byram Pound located on Mansfield Drive in Byram Township, N.J. In addition to the pets that can be seen at the Byram Pound, we also have many cats in foster homes and several dogs in local kennels. These pets can be seen by appointment and at our regularly scheduled adoption days.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Adoption days are held 2 Saturdays per month from
11-3 at various locations in Sussex and Morris Counties. See website for updated adoption day locations.
Animals can also be seen by appointment by contacting 973-300-3185 or info@barksinc.com.

Our Adoption Process...

Our Adoption Policy
BARKS has many wonderful pets available for adoption. All our pets are spayed and neutered and have a current rabies and distemper vaccine. In addition, all cats are tested for feline aids and feline leukemia and all dogs are heartworm tested.
BARKS prohibits the declawing of our cats but check our website for cats found already declawed. They are identified by a black pawprint on the petfinder listing.

Our screening and adoption process:
Our screening process consists of a written application, including a veterinary reference where applicable, and a personal interview. At our discretion, a visit to the prospective home may be required.

All pets are accepted for return if the pet is not adjusting well at the home. We encourage adoptive homes to make this decision within 30 days but will accept the pet back at any later date with reasonable advance notice.

We request an adoption donation per pet.
Adoption fees:
The adoption fee is $150.00 for dogs.
For cats, there is a discount for adopting two cats at the same time:
Kittens 0-8 months: $120 ($195 for 2)
Adults 8 months - 7 yrs: $95 ($160 for 2)
Seniors 7+ yrs: $50 ($75 for 2)
(fee for adopting multiple cats/mixed ages will be determined on a case by case basis)
