My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MAX is a 9 year old neutered black male Lab who weighs 75 pounds. He is a bouncy baby who is good with other dogs, cats- as long as they don’t play with his tail, and children 3 years and up. We’ve only had him overnight, but, so far he has shown excellent house manners and was immediately accepted by our 4 resident dogs and one other foster. We will test him with our cats and on the stairs in the next few days. Max’s favorite stance is with his head between your knees while you scratch his rear- just watch him dance! He also loves to play ball, but doesn’t care much for other toys. He does like to hear the sound of his own voice, but it seems he is just barking when he can see us but not be with us. He is well behaved in the car but whines a lot so we will be working on short trips with yummy treats. He does love his walks and will do his business on leash if necessary. He does have a skin condition but his rescuer sought treatment and hair has started to grow back, with medicated baths and change in diet and some fish oil. He is Erlychia postive but that is his only pesky parasite and he is being treated with antibiotics. Max is approved for kids ages 3+.

Update (12/01): Max continues to be an adorable, easy houseguest. He got excited when he saw his fosters’ cats so he flunked his first cat test. They will continue to work with him to see if it was just a bad initial meeting or if he is too exuberant around cats. He is a gentle, sweet guy!

Update (11/27) Max is the uncle who never grew up: he grunts after you tell him he’s a good boy, as if to say, “I know it!” He loves to play ball but isn’t obnoxious about it. He has taught Mabel, who hadn’t shown any interest in toys, that tennis balls are the Holy Grail. He hasn’t met the resident cats but has loved all the resident dogs. He loves to put his head between your knees while you scratch his rear. Oh, and I might mention Max is approved for children 3 AND UP!
