Facts about Laverne - Foster-to-adopt

  • Breed: Domestic Shorthair
  • Color: Black (All)
  • Age: Senior
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Short
Laverne is a Domestic Short Hair (DSH), black, female cat, 15 years of age.

Laverne came to us having survived some tough and lonely days where she lived pretty much on her own for a number of years. A senior in relatively good health, but needing time to warm-up and begin trusting again, this sincere, plucky girl quickly showed us she hadn’t forgotten how to enjoy the finer things in life, and she’s now looking for a forever home that will spoil her with lots of love, comfy napping spots, and plenty of delicious food (she loves food and treats). A sweet and sometimes sassy girl who while interested and inquisitive is neither demanding nor looking to be showered with constant attention, she has a shy side and will need a little time to warm-up to new people. Once she does, however, she’ll readily reveal her affectionate personality letting you know she appreciates getting attention and pets with quiet purrs and gentle head nudges. Calm, laid-back, and definitely leaning toward the independent side, Laverne will appreciate a home where leisurely days, light interactive play sessions, and warm sunny perches meant for afternoon napping are part and parcel for a life lived in the slow lane.

Laverne is best suited as an indoor pet and companion for a home with a low to moderately-active lifestyle and no active young children. Other cats and/or dogs in the house may be a possibility so long as they are well-mannered and respect her space early on (until she gets to know them and they her). As with all Monroe SPCA adoptable cats, a home visit and a meet-n-greet with any housemate pets will be required prior to adoption.

Laverne currently resides at Monroe SPCA’s Adoption Center and Resale Store/The Fur Factory. Come meet her during store hours, Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm and 4:00 - 6:00 pm, closed Sunday, Monday, and National Holidays. All Monroe SPCA cats available for adoption have an adoption fee of $75.00. This fee includes the cat being spayed or neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, and micro-chipped prior to adoption.

About Monroe SPCA

About Our Rescue Group...

Monroe SPCA (Monroe Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is a 501c.3 tax-exempt, non-profit animal welfare and rescue organization incorporated in the State of Michigan in 2010. Monroe SPCA is governed by all-volunteer Board of Directors.

Monroe SPCA’s mission is to save, protect, and improve the lives of animals. One of the ways we accomplish our mission is by being the leading non-profit organization facilitating adoptions and providing medical care and treatment to homeless animals at Monroe County Animal Control. We are also the leading rescuer and rehabilitator of animals at this shelter, finding and securing placement for some of the neediest and most vulnerable animals with partner rescue organizations (all of them no-kill) as well as through our own network of foster homes.

Additionally, Monroe SPCA, now, also provides every dog at Monroe County Animal Control with basic preventative health care which includes flea preventative, deworming(s), DHPP vaccine and booster, and Heartworm Testing. If a dog tests positive for Heartworm, Monroe SPCA also provides that dog with Heartworm Treatment.

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption process starts with filling out an Adoption Application on the animal you're interested in adopting. Once we've received and reviewed your completed application we’ll contact you, usually within 2-3 days (remember, we're all volunteers). Our adoptions are best-fit placements, meaning we strive to ensure a good match for both, the animal being adopted and the adopter.

Our adoption fee for dogs and puppies is $120.00 to $200.00.
Our adoption fee for cats and kittens is $75.00.

Adoption fee includes the animal being spayed or neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, and micro-chipped prior to adoption as well as all dogs being Heartworm negative or receiving treatment for Heartworm.
