Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dixie is a charming 3-year old Italian Greyhound Mix who has lived her life outdoors until coming into rescue. She came to us as an owner surrender when she had a litter and her family did not want to take on that responsibility. Both Dixie and her pups are now in rescue and looking for forever homes.
Despite the fact that Dixie was outdoors her whole life, she is acclimating to life indoors and loves everything about the warmth and safety she feels in her new environment. She is still a little skittish with new noises and things around the house (like blow-dryers and large items) but every day she seems to become more curious than nervous. When Dixie feels comfortable and safe she is an affectionate girl with a quirky and playful side that will melt your heart.
Dixie does fine with children, but because she would need time to get used to her new environment, the kids would have to be patient and gentle. She would also prefer a home where expectations are clear and her schedule is consistent…this would allow her to get comfortable and maintain her housetraining.
Dixie has been around other dogs and cats and (after a proper introduction) enjoys playing and hanging out…but the love and time of her people is truly where Dixie’s heart lies. She loves to follow her foster mom around the house and enjoys playing catch, pulling tug toys, and chasing balls around. This spirited little gal also adores laps, ear rubs, and snuggling up for naps and TV time. Dixie will burrow under your covers at night, but sleeps just as well on her own bed. She is a truly devoted girl who wants nothing more than a warm home with people who will keep her safe and adored forever.
Dixie is housetrained, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped.
