My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DOB July 1, 2015

Meet Ella, a sweet and funny girl with a special quirk.
The vet believes she was oxygen deprived at birth. It has affected her eyesight and her coordination. It’s hard to tell how much or how little vision she has; her right eye seems worse and she sees things that are in motion better than things that are still. She doesn't know that she is any different so don't tell her!
Ella is a very enthusiastic kitten: she LOVES her food, she LOVES to play, and loves her humans. She’s a very happy little kitten with the most adorable little “chirp”. She is very, very affectionate. She loves to be swaddled in a towel and fall asleep in your arms. She will sleep like a regular cat, but not if she can help it. She has met a lot of people and all have been charmed and fallen in love with this special little girl.
Ella is a little clumsy, but it just makes her more endearing! She only recently learned to jump up on the couch, but finds non-fabric items more difficult. She has a little more trouble jumping down. It is pretty clear she’s a little “slow”, but she’s still learning and making progress every day. She is very high energy and needs lots of stimulation. So interactive play and/or toys that move (say, with batteries) are a must. She also explores the world a lot with her mouth – so nipping needs to be discouraged – and she licks everything. Occasionally, she will get really rambunctious and nippy; it usually means she’s hungry and needs to be shown her food, which she doesn’t always find on her own. This is kitten behaviour that she will likely outgrow, especially with some guidance. She also has a bit of a temper, especially when being stopped from doing something she likes – playing, for instance – and she’ll growl her kitten growl to let you know she is displeased.
She keeps herself very clean, but she can be a messy eater often standing in her wet food and spreading her kibble around. But that’s improving. Her litter box habits are good.
Ella is learning to use her scratching post, although it’s mostly a toy right now.
Ella needs an experienced adopter who can keep a close eye on her. She does not like to be alone. She also won’t drink water; she gets her hydration from mixing water with her wet food three times each day, we are hoping she will grow into this.
Ella has met two dogs and a number of cats and likes them all. However, because of her poor vision, their abrupt appearance can startle her. She would like – and probably benefit from – another feline friend. With a careful, supervised introduction she should be just fine.
Ella is now ready for her furrver home, one with lots of attention and affection would only suit this girl.
