My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Let me introduce you to Itsy Bitsy (Bitsy for short). As you can see she’s just an itsy bitsy little thing hence her name. She’s a smooth haired Chihuahua who’s approximately 2 years old and weighs 7 pounds. Bitsy is just the sweetest girl you'll ever meet. Bitsy came to us from a rural pound where she turned in having been found abandoned in an apartment. We have no idea how someone could leave this girl behind, she’s just so loving and well behaved. But we now look upon this as Bitsy’s opportunity to find a loving forever home where she won't be ever be abandoned again. This is Bitsy’s time to find a true family that will love her and look out for her and will offer her all the joy and happiness that she will give back in return.

Bitsy is a young dog so she requires a somewhat active family who will exercise her daily and play with her. She doesn’t play with toys which makes me think she doesn’t know how. She is active and playful outdoors, but wonderfully, despite being a young girl, calm and mellow indoors. The only time I’ve heard her bark is when we were playing ‘chase’ inside the apartment and she was having fun and let out an excited bark, other than that she doesn’t make a sound. Once inside Bitsy likes to find a cosy spot and curl up, not unlike a cat. She loves snuggles and pets and brushing and any attention you can give her, but she isn’t pushy about it. Bitsy will follow you from room to room but when you settle into one spot so will she. She is quiet and calm, and peaceful. Bitsy has had only one housetraining accident in the apartment, and that was my fault because I couldn’t stop hitting the snooze button. Otherwise, she’s fully housetrained. We monitor her and take her out regularly. Bitsy is crate trained, however we don’t crate her during the day as it’s not needed. Bitsy will get into the garbage if you leave it as any dog will so we have learned to keep it away. We allow her on the furniture and put a cover on the couch as she does shed. Bitsy is very well behaved in the home. Outside Bitsy enjoys going for walks and has even chased a squirrel though that’s not an everyday occurrence. She loves all the sniffs associated with a walk and really enjoys looking at everything around her. Bitsy is ok in the car. She likes to sit in the front seat and look out the window. She’s also been known to walk from the front seat to the back seat and back again.

Bitsy is good with dogs, cats, and children. She would do well in a home with another well behaved, friendly dog, but this is not a necessity for her. She would do just fine being the only dog and getting all the love. She would be best with older children though (over 8yrs of age) due to her tiny size. She will also need to be with kids that are calm and kind and not rambunctious. Bitsy likes a quiet and calm home and the noise and activity of rambunctious kids will be too much for her, but if your children are the quiet sort who know how to be gentle with a small dog and would enjoy a buddy to cuddle with that Bitsy could be a great family dog.

Bitsy is very affectionate but gives her kisses sparingly. She likes to snuggle into your neck. She prefers to sleep with us and crawls under the blankets and settles down for the night. If you are looking for a good looking, affectionate, sweet natured dog then Bitsy is the one for you. She needs a family committed to furthering her training and making sure she gets exercised and loved every single day. We are looking for a family for her that will commit to continuing her training and take her to obedience school. Even though she is small, she is smart and will benefit from classes just like a larger dog would. Bitsy needs to know that her people are in charge and she will also benefit from the socialization that comes from classes. She also needs a family that is fully understanding of the fact that even though she is a tiny dog, she has every ability to walk on her 4 feet and she needs to be treated like a dog to live her fulfilled life. Carrying her around in your arms or in a bag is not a fulfilled life for a dog and this spoiling can lead to the yappy and snappy Chihuahua’s that no one enjoys. Bitsy is a wonderful representative of the Chihuahua breed and we want her to stay that way so we will only adopt her to a home where she will be properly exercised and have rules and training, along with love and care. She will give a lot of love back and then some. Bitsy is a very special dog who will make a loyal companion to her new family. She requires someone who will give her lots of snuggles every day...could this be you???
