My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Koda was originally adopted as a puppy from a shelter who identified him as a Husky mix. By the time he was 4, his owner had moved 18 times. She thought he was a Collie mix so when she could no longer keep him, that's how she posted him. Wanting to help this sweet boy, he came into SCR as one of our "mixes". For fun we did a DNA test on him and the results came back as German Shepherd/Malamute/Sheltie. Koda is a happy boy. He loves to run but still pulls on a leash. He would benefit with some obedience training as he is super smart and loves to learn and keep busy. Koda is very affectionate and attentive and would do well in an active home where he can go hiking, play ball, etc. He LOVES toys! He's currently not safe off leash although he usually comes immediately when called. He is housebroken, very calm and gentle when indoors while alert and "on duty" when outside. He was underweight when he came in to us (42#) and was a finicky eater so we have been working on that issue. He has gained some weight and now weighs about 48#. He could use a few more (ideal 50-55#). SCR has done extensive vet work on him to identify any medical reasons for his lack of appetite and all have come back negative. We can share the records with you. He has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia but you wouldn't know to watch him in action as he runs up stairs in a two story house, leaps over objects, and is fluid in motion. He loves to run. The vet said surgery wasn't needed at this time and might never be. He takes Glucosamine and Fish Oil for this diagnosis. Apparently he has been roughly treated by some past groomers as he's very wary and defensive about being groomed. For this reason he would do best with older children who understand his sensitivity. He loves other dogs and would benefit by having a companion his size. He is also good with cats. Koda likes to be where his family is. He rides well in the car and sleeps right by your bedside. He would be a devoted companion.
