My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable puppy. They're so new and fresh with every possibility open to them. That's the case unless they're in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space...then they can wonder if the world is a tentative place. With love and assurance..they quickly come back overflowing with puppy love and opportunity. We're so grateful for the efforts of the great Houston rescuers in saving Sage. They could see that her temperament was so loving that they couldn't allow her to be euthanized.

Sage was immediately brought to be vetted and temperament tested...she passed both with flying colors. The vet's assessment was that Sage has a loving and engaging personality. Since she's only 16 weeks old, the vet felt that she would leave any leftover shelter fear behind (although her foster mom hasn't really seen lots of fear) once she is adopted into a very loving and nurturing family.

Sage was then brought to a great Texas foster home to begin her education around house manners and socialization. It turns out that Sage, at such a young age, is so cooperative (and very active in a silly, puppy sort of way) that it's been a fun and rewarding experience for her foster mom to watch her blossom. She's like a blank slate...open and curious about the possibilities of the world. If Sage continues her regimen of time with loving humans and puppy socialization classes that promote positive relationships with other dogs as well as bonding with her people...Sage will become a well-adjusted and extremely pleasant adult companion.

Sage is a gorgeous puppy with a cotton-soft coat that speaks of youth and good health. We've called Sage a purebred Westie because we can't identify another breed in her makeup. She may be a mix, we just can't figure out any other parts of her.

Since Sage is just starting her education about the world, if you are kind to her, she is your best friend and is very interested in some serious bonding. If Sage is treated kindly (treats and belly rubs always help) with clear behavioral guidelines, she will become a well-adjusted adult dog who respects her people as her leaders. This is the kind of family we're searching for for Sage.

Sage currently weighs 8.8 lbs (the vets anticipate her to weigh approximately 12 - 14 lbs when full-grown.) She's the perfect size to be very portable and low-maintenance enough to take along on fun adventures. We feel it's very important that Sage is provided with exercise and mental stimulation to develop into a well-adjusted companion. She will be a perfect size to enjoy hiking and adventures in the Colorado mountains. We'd also like a family who spends lots of time at home and chooses to include a fuzzy puppy in their activities.

Sage is a non-shedding puppy. She will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (salmon oil would be a great supplement) to keep her hair cottony-soft, healthy and matt-free.

Sage will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 12/18 or 12/22/15 (to be determined) Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
