My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET SCOOTER

Scooter is a handsome 2.5 year old, 10.5 lb, long haired, red, male Dachshund who is looking to find his perfect, forever family. Scooter is a friendly little fella. He enjoys playing, taking baths in the sink, sitting in your lap and (this is a funny little trick) mimicing the sounds of sirens as they go by. Scooter is car, house and crate trained. He also walks well on a leash. Though he has had no formal training, he understands 'off' and 'no.' Scooter may be 2.5 years old, but he acts like a puppy. He is really good with female small doxies; he's a little shy and timid though so he needs someone who is willing to win his trust. As you can see from his photos, he is very handsome with a beautiful coat. Like many doxies, SCOOTER needs to smell the flowers, grass and rocks. He likes to take time to go potty and needs to be at just the right spot. This little guy is a non barker, a lover and an overall great pup with much potential. He's definitely a keeper.

Scooter will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds. If you think this is your family, please visit our website at www.odr-inc.org and complete the adoption questionnaire.

Like all Dachshunds, Scooter is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, Scooter needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give Scooter a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
