My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you're searching for the most devoted and loving best friend ever....Polly is the girl you want to have around! Polly is just naturally a lover ....when she looks at you with those expressive, kind eyes and sweet smile, your heart just has to melt. Polly is a truly beautiful ShihTzu with a pure white non-shedding coat with striking golden markings. She is definitely a lap-dog extraordinaire (perfect at 11 lbs). She cuddles close on the couch with her beautiful head draped over her favorite person ...an occasional kiss from Polly is inevitable.

Polly is a sensitive pup...therefore her guardian turning her into a high-kill shelter specifically to be euthanized left her feeling abandoned and very frightened. How could a being like Polly possibly understand that being 7 (or so) years old was reason enough to be disposed of?

Polly is a very healthy girl who loves to enjoy life. Her only challenge is a cataract in one eye...but Polly doesn't care. Isn't that the reason she was given two eyes? She appears to see well and be unaffected by primarily using one eye.

Polly would be overjoyed with a human family and another kind and mellow dog to go on walks with and enjoy the sunshine together. Just say the word and up she jumps for time spent outside just hanging out or taking a leisurely stroll together around the neighborhood.

Polly's foster mom had the following to say about this endearing ShihTzu:

Polly has been such a pleasure to foster! She's the perfect dog for an adult family...so completely loving and cuddly! I was told that Polly had had a bad experience in her previous home with a 3-year old...apparently the child was very hard on this little dog (poor Polly). The child was clearly not being properly supervised and would have no way to know better. It's for this reason that Farfel's feels strongly that Polly should be placed in the home of retirees or an adult family. Polly doesn't dislike gentle kids but an adult home would be a quieter, uncomplicated place where Polly can truly be a best friend and companion.

Polly weighs 11 lbs and is approximately 7 - 7.5 years old (the perfect age for this long-living breed...old enough to have left puppyish behavior behind and young enough to have many, many active years left as a loving, devoted companion.) Polly gets more comfortable every day that she spends with me...while initially a bit standoffish (completely understandable after having just spent a couple of days in a high-kill shelter)) - that ends very quickly. Polly is now very curious, fun and more engaging every single day.

I'm very proud to say that Polly is non-destructive in the home...she's so great! Whoever is lucky enough to become her full-time best friend is getting a low-maintenance, completely loyal/loving dog who is very clean about herself.

I would love to see Polly in a home with true dog-lovers who have the desire to spend time with this wonderful girl. She'd be a natural for picnics and walks along Colorado paths. I'd hate to see Polly left home alone for long hours each day while her family pursued other interests. She would prefer to be a take-along (when appropriate) member of the family. She's such an amazing girl that welcomes me home when I return with the biggest wag. No matter what my day is like, Polly reminds me of what's really important (a wiggle and a big kiss!)

Polly, being a purebred ShihTzu, is a non-shedding pup (considered to be one of the more hypoallergenic of breeds). She will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition (salmon oil with glucosamine would be perfect) to keep her cotton-soft coat healthy and matt-free.

Polly will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 1/8/16. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
