My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you looking for a happy, playful, goofy, sometimes ditzy, active big dog to be a much loved family member? Then look no further! Let me introduce Chrissy! She is an 18mth old Collie/Husky mix girl who is everything mentioned and so much more. Chrissy is such a funny, goofy, and eternally happy girl that we have named her after the much loved 70’s TV icon Chrissy Snow from Three’s Company. If you don’t recall this character or are too young to fully appreciate the reference then you will have to Google her and you will understand why we named this joyful dog Chrissy.

Chrissy came to us from a rural pound where she was an unclaimed stray. We can’t understand why someone wouldn’t claim this great dog as it is apparent that someone put some time into training her. It’s for the best for her though as we can now ensure she goes to a home where her people will commit to her and ensure that she is never abandoned again. She came to us already housetrained and she knows basic obedience skills like “sit” and “shake a paw” and she walks on a leash well. We have taught her crate training and she took to it very well and now runs into her crate at bed time or when we have to leave the house. She knows that the crate means treats so she eagerly anticipates the treats she receives every time she goes in her crate. She will rest quietly in her crate until you come home and then waits quietly to be let out.

Chrissy is a large dog, about 60lbs and she has a few more pounds to put on when she fills out. She is an active dog and needs daily walks and play sessions to be happy. She loves her walks and will go as long and as far as you want to go. She is an all-weather dog and needs an outdoorsy family/person who will take her out daily for adventures. She is great in the car so would love to accompany you on outings, especially if they lead to new places to explore. She would love a fenced in backyard for romping around in and playing fetch with a ball in. She is getting very good at this game and will bring the ball back more times than not. In the house she adores playing fetch with any toy at all and will consistently bring it back for you to throw again. A home with a big room or a long hallway will be needed for indoor fetch games. If you are watching TV you can count on having to repeatedly toss her toy down the hall or across the room. Chrissy finds this the most fun game and rarely tires of it. It is a good way of keeping her occupied and wearing her out without too much effort on your part. Her absolute favourite toy is squeaky balls and she will walk around squeaking them loudly and with gusto. She adores these annoying squeaking things!!! We have no idea how that noise is not annoying to her, but because she loves them so we put up with it….for so long. Then the squeaky balls go away and quieter toys come out. She will play fetch with any toy so it matters not to her.

Chrissy is being fostered with other dogs and she loves to play with them. She would love a home with another playful dog but it isn’t a necessity. If she goes to a forever home without another dog her family will have to ensure she has regular access to other friendly dogs to play with and keep her social skills up. She is also being fostered with cats. She has learned that she is not allowed to chase the cats and respects this. Her instinct though is to play with and chase a running cat, so she could go to a home with a confident and calm cat that is accustomed to dogs, but she will not be suitable for a home with a skittish or aggressive cat that will entice her to chase. Chrissy is not being fostered with children but with her kind nature we believe she will be fine in a home with children over 6yrs of age that are respectful to dogs and have been taught proper behaviour around dogs. Chrissy will not do well in a home that is loud or has rambunctious children…she will too easily be caught up in the activity and energy and can get too rowdy in that situation.

Chrissy needs continued work with socialization. It is apparent that whoever owned her before didn’t introduce her to many other people. Because of this she can be initially shy with strangers. This is something that we are working on and will need to continue to be worked on in her adoptive home. Chrissy does best with calm, quiet greetings where she is allowed to investigate the new person on her own and not be forced into a greeting. She gets scared of loud people or a lot of activity in the arrival of the new person. But if allowed a calm greeting on her terms she accepts the new person in no time and if treats are involved then she likes them even faster! She can be bribed! And if the new person likes to toss squeaky balls then a new best friend is made. Attending obedience school is a must for Chrissy’s new family as she needs the socialization of the school setting. She is a very smart dog and will make you very proud in school! Not only will she continue her learning but she will be learning in a safe environment with other dogs and people around. The more she gets out and about the better she will be and soon enough she will be greeting people joyously as she realizes that new friends are fun. In her foster home she is being introduced to new people and she is coming along very nicely. She is a very social dog at heart, she just needs more exposure to new people to keep working at greetings.

If you would love a googly eyed, goofball of a dog and have the time to commit to her training and socialization and are active and love to go for walks, hikes, runs, then Chrissy might just be the perfect dog for you. She is a very easy dog to live with and to love. She is very affectionate and loves hugs and cuddles and pets. She is eternally happy and always has a smile on her face; you can’t help but smile when you look at her. Chrissy will make an ideal dog in the right family. We would love to hear from you if you think that you are the ideal family for her.
