My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hope. 4 year old female Blue Point Ragdoll

Here is another beautiful Ragdoll girl with a sad story. The cat was purchased "for a large sum of money" and given to a woman as a gift. For four years, Hope was her pampered companion; Hope saw very few people except for her human mom. She has always been a shy kitty, only bonding with her mom. Even the brothers who purchased her and visited from time to time noted that the cat was initially reticent to come out when they were there. Finally, she got used to them and would come to visit while they were around. Hope was allowed to go inside and out but "always stayed in the back yard."

Sadly, Hope's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and passed away leaving Hope alone in her apartment for several weeks while family tried to find her a place to go. This kitty who was so bonded to her human was left alone for the first time in her life and has suffered a great depression as a result.

The first photo on the website shows Hope in better days. It is actually a picture taken of a framed photo, which shows how much her owner loved Hope. This shows her in full beautiful coat, well groomed and content. The cat that came to rescue, however, was not in that same condition. Those are the other two photos. She was covered in scabs, and had lost a great deal of her coat. We are guessing that during her owner's illness and the ensuing weeks alone in the home, that the cat did not receive regular flea medication and possibly not the best of food and care. With Hope going inside and out, she appears to have had a bad reaction to fleas.

In the short few weeks since she's been in rescue, since having flea medication placed, her scabs have healed and her skin is looking much better; her coat is starting to feel silky again as it should.

Hope's depression and anger at what she must perceive as abandonment have been harder to overcome than the flea dermatitis. When she first got to her foster home, she was placed in a private suite in order to give her the most comfortable transition possible. She spent the first two weeks under the bed. Initially, if anyone approached her, she would hiss and growl. After two weeks, we noticed that she would sneak out at night and look around a bit and then head back under the bed; we knew we were making progress. The third week Hope moved into another guest room and decided she preferred to live in the closet. At the same time, she decided that she would allow her new human slave to pet her. Indeed, she demanded that she be petted.
Whew! There is hope for Hope after all.

We are looking for a special home for what will once again be an incredible, beautiful, and loving kitty. She will be dedicated to her owner and, as of now, needs to be in a home where she can be the only pampered pet.

Please come and meet Hope and give her a chance at a new life. Contact Ellen. Thefawls@yahoo.com
