Handsome Dexter has had a tough time... a time full of heartbreak and loneliness that still shows sometimes in his expressive face. You see, his owner passed away. And as if that heartache wasn't enough, he was left to fend for himself for a while. Thankfully, a very caring couple helped save him by getting him to a shelter. He spent a long two months in a shelter until Dogs Are Deserving heard about him and came for him.
Despite his sad start, Dexter is a happy boy and is eager to meet new people and other dogs. He is a large pup and full of excited energy. He needs a home with a 4-6 feet high fence so that he can race around and burn off some of his extra energy. He also needs someone who likes to play fetch, and who will take him on long slow walks. He takes his time on walks, sniffing and taking it all in.
It's best to do slow intros with Dexter. He's a lot of happy, thankful dog and may be too much for those not understanding dogs. And he's not much of a cat dog...so he is better suited to a cat-less home.
Dexter is house-broken and knows "sit", "stay", "give paw" and is working on "down". He is eager to please and ready to learn. He likes to have a treat reward for a job well done and takes treats gently. He does not like being crated. Instead he'd rather settle in and snuggle up with you.
His dogwalker is a big fan too...
"Dexter is such a fun-loving, happy-go-lucky dog! He is full of life and radiates pure joy!" Dexter has impressed his dogwalker with how much he loves his walks and romps in the yard with his tennis ball or rope toy...not to mention his tremendous focus and willingness to learn. Proof? He's mastered the eat-the-treat-on-my-nose flip and catch, in one short lesson! Dexter thrives on positivity and affection. He loves to be praised and in return, he will shower you with kisses! "This big goof has so much love to give and will quickly steal your heart!"
He has so much love to give and deserves a home filled with active people who will appreciate his enthusiasm. Please reach out to Dogs Are Deserving Rescue today if you think your home is the perfect fit for Dexter
