MEET VINNIE
This handsome, loving little 5 year old black and tan long haired Dachshund is looking for a loving forever family. He loves sitting on laps, going for rides in cars and is house trained. He is on his way to Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. so we're still learning more about him, but we're confident that VINNIE will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds.Like many Dachshunds, VINNIE has great hunting skills, so his new family will need to be a non-cat, non-smaller pet family. He does do well with other small dogs (especially a lady-like, spayed female doxie).
Like all Dachshunds, VINNIE is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, VINNIE needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
