I am already neutered, housetrained, up to date with shots, and good with dogs.
Meet Chandler (“Chandy”), an approximately 2 year old blue merle neutered male border collie/Australian shepherd mix, possibly with a touch of St. Bernard. He is fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative and on preventative, and has tested negative for Erlichia after a course of doxycycline. He was a very slight positive when we first took him into rescue as he had a huge tick infestation.
Chandler is a very attractive and sweet natured dog and has a much more “laid back” temperament than most border collies and Australian shepherds. He is well behaved in the house and will just lie down and relax. He is crate trained and likes to go to his crate uninvited, especially at nap time and meal times. He loves to ride in the car and will take every opportunity to jump in if I happen to leave a door or the back open!
He is leash trained and does well with the other 5 dogs in his foster family and has been well behaved and sociable at our adoption days – the only sign of dominance he has ever shown is a growl if big male dogs get in his face. He would be happy either as an only dog or with another dog as a companion. He shows no chase or herding instinct and has not been tested with small children, except for being petted at our adoption events. Although he quite a big dog,
weighing about 50 lbs, he is very gentle and would be fine with an older couple as well as an active family. This dog is a great family companion but would not be for people looking for a high energy sport dog. He needs to be an inside dog or outside with supervision, as he is able to jump over fences with no problem at all. Going for walks or supervised exercise in enclosed areas would be ideal for Chandler.
