HI THERE, I’M MARS! I’M READY AND WAITING TO BE HOPELESSLY DEVOTED TO YOU! I SURE DO LOVE TENNIS BALLS! CHECK OUT MY VIDEO!
This handsome guy came to us from a southern shelter in June 2014, when he was about 1 ½ years old. Mars is happy-go-lucky, adores people and is ready to play on short notice. It’s hard to be in a bad mood with Mars around. He’s bound to bring out smiles with his silly expressions and clownish ways. Mars has an addiction…toys, toy and more toys, and will give you his undivided attention if he hears a squeaker. Balls rank high on his list of favorites…he’ll play fetch all day long. He hasn’t gotten the memo that he’s supposed to let you have the ball when he retrieves it, but there’s always hope.
Mars is housebroken and will let you know if he needs to head outside. He’s crate-trained but will fuss to be let out if he knows someone is home. His leash manners could use polishing, so be prepared for training and use of a proper harness. Mars will sit on command and is quite the gentleman on car rides. He's very food-motivated and will be all yours for a yummy treat. He loves to run and play with great enthusiasm, meaning his energy level may be a bit too much for toddlers and small children. He’s a love bug with the older children in his foster home and eagerly greets them with doggy hugs and kisses. And shhh…he’s been known to snuggle and snooze in bed with his foster parents.
You may be wondering why this fantastic dog is still waiting for his forever home. Simply stated…we want to be sure Mars is adopted by people who understand that, although he is wonderful, there are issues that require attention and diligence. You see, he’s quite selective when it comes to other dogs and isn’t a fan of cats. An experienced owner will understand that he must be watched closely and handled properly in the presence of other animals. This is not a guy for doggy parks or leisurely strolls around a neighborhood when other dogs are out and about. Care will also need to be taken on visits to the vet and other new places. Mars is insecure in unfamiliar surroundings and may react badly out of fear. This boy is NOT mean, not by a long shot! He worships people, is completely loving, and loyal to a fault. Many dogs don’t care for other animals, and this is the case with Mars. He needs a home with people who will keep him safe and happy as an only pet. A decent sized yard for him to run and play fetch in would be ideal. There will need to be a privacy fence that blocks his view of neighboring dogs or animals passing nearby.
To sum it up: Mars is a “people dog” in search of a very special home and family. If you give this affectionate teddy-bear-of-a-dog a chance, Mars will offer all the snuggles, love and laughter your heart can hold. This very special boy has been waiting so long to hear someone say, “I want THAT dog!” Could that someone be you?
All of the dogs/cats listed are located in or near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Adoption fees are $245 for dogs ($95 for Seniors 8 years+) and $60 for cats, to help cover vet bills for spay/neuter of all adoptable pets as well as getting them up-to-date on their basic vaccinations, and for starting heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Puppies and kittens will go into adoptive homes as Foster-to-Adopt until old enough to have spay/neuter surgery. No pet will be officially adopted without being spayed/neutered and vaccinated (unless there are health risks in doing so).
We will require an approved on-line application which is available on our website at ForeverLoveRescue.com. Be prepared for a Meet-and-Greet and a basic home check to be done on or before adoption day, to ensure that the pet can be safe in the new home and that everyone involved is comfortable with each other.
