My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Cocoa! My parents are weird and like to name all of their foster dogs after food. So I am named after hot Cocoa

How old are you?
The vet thinks I am at least 2 years old.

What do you look like?
I am the perfect sized female pit. I am about 45 pounds and I have shiny black coat with the cutest white stripe down my nose and a white patch on my chest. My back two feet are also white.

What do you like to eat?
My foster parents give me this really yummy food. I don’t know what it is but they say it is healthy for me, so I like that. They say it has fish in it to keep my coat healthy. I also love to eat carrots and treats!

What kind of personality do you have?
I have a lot of energy. I love to play with my foster brother and could run around for hours. I also love to snuggle up on the couch with my humans at the end of the day. I could be described as having a goofy and curious personality. I always want to see what my foster parents and brother are up to.

Describe your perfect day:
My perfect day would consist of hours of running around the basement with my foster brother, ohh but don’t forget breakfast first. I love to eat. After breakfast then chip and I can play all day. After that, I would like to take a nap with my foster humans and then I would like to eat some dinner! Give me lots of treats and a few nylabones to chew on in-between and I will be the happiest puppy in the world.

What is your favorite toy?
While I love my foster brother chip, he tends to ruin everything and can only have nylabones because he destroys everything else! So that is all I get to play with too. But I love them, especially the bacon flavored one and could chew on that thing all day long.

Do you know any tricks?
I sit and stay really well. I also know how to go to my crate when I am asked to do so. I am treat motivated so my foster parents think I can be trained to do just about anything.

What scares you?
Vacuums, and anything that foster brother doesn’t like. Overall, I am not easily scared.

Do you like cats?
I haven't had much experience with cats, but I would be curious to learn more about them!

Do you have any doggie best friends?
My foster brother, Chip! He is the main dog that I get to hang out with every day. He is showing me the ropes like how to chew on bones, walk on a leash, go potty outside, and to be lazy. Sometimes, we play in the basement for hours while mom and dad watch a movie. I love to play with Chip but I’m gentle when I do. He is a great foster brother. I also got to hang out with Elly for a long weekend. She and I get along great. My foster parents joke that we could be from the same littler since we have identical personalities. But they know we aren’t related!

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I want to be the center of attention to any humans and dogs in the room! As long as there is someone to love me and pet me and let me follow them around, I will be one happy puppy!

How is your health?
Right now, my health is great. When I was rescued, I had a sore on my face from the shelter I came from, but that healed quickly. I recently went in to get spayed and the vet found out I had an infected uterus! It was a blessing in disguise that I went in to get spayed. I could have become really sick or even died from the infection! I have recovered great and am so thankful to the vet and EC for getting me super healthy.

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
I share a home with my two human foster parents, David and Emma and my foster brother Chip.

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?

When I am the only one in the house, my foster parents put me in my crate. I feel safe in my crate and don’t mind hanging out in there until someone comes home to play with me!

Where do you sleep?
I spend my nights dreaming away in my crate. It helps me settle down and get a good night of sleep so I am ready to beat brother to the food bowls first thing in the morning.

What do you love about your foster family?
I love that my foster family gives me lots of attention. I also love that they are showing me the ropes of how to live in a home and give me a safe comfortable place to be a dog!

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?
Before being rescued, I was most likely an outside dog and I had either 1 or 2 litters of puppies. I came from a shelter in Illinois and was so happy the day that my foster parents and EC pulled me from the shelter. I couldn’t stop running around and acting goofy. Life before being rescued was scary, but my foster parents and brother and everyone at EC have helped me blossom into a fun, loving, sweet, and goofy girl. I can’t wait to go to my forever home!

Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they grow up. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for your and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
