Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Stevie is a 6 month old, 8 pound female Dachshund mix. She was picked up when found wandering in the road. Stevie was thought at first to be totally blind but we now think she can see a little bit- maybe just shadows. She did run up a flight of stairs so we know she can see something- just not sure how much. Stevie has an appointment with an ophthalmologist on January 15th to assess her sight.
Although Stevie cannot see like normal dogs, she is very social and would do great as a single dog, but if she had the chance for a furever friend that would be wonderful as well. She is very much attracted to other dogs and will play whenever she gets the chance. Her current foster family consists of 2 large dogs and 3 cats. She has made fast friends with all and is an absolute love with people.
Stevie is crate trained and is quiet in her crate. We are currently working on steps to finish housebreaking and she is mastering this quickly. She enjoys riding in the car and curling up at night under the blanket in front of the wood stove.
Stevie has seen Dr. Burgesser and was diagnosed with optic nerve hypoplasia. In simple terms - her optic nerves are underdeveloped. Stevie was born this way and her vision will neither improve nor decline.
We're hopeful someone will cherish this visually impaired bundle of joy.
